An underfloor supply plenum space was renovated to minimize air leaks, establish consistent static pressure for more efficient airflow and conform to LEED® requirements.
The ChallengeMcKenney’s was responsible for managing a multi-vendor initiative to create a clean and airtight underfloor supply plenum as part of a state-of-the-art building renovation. The team needed to locate and seal air leaks in the floor and perimeter area, so temperatures could be controlled more easily and accurately.
The SolutionThe project added load to existing infrastructure. As a result, McKenney’s devised a comprehensive “Method of Procedure” script—which included contingency plans with redundant cooling in critical areas—to ensure the renovation wouldn’t adversely affect other floors or systems. The McKenney’s team worked closely with the general contractor and many subcontractors to search for and repair leaks in the floor, around the perimeter and in elevator shafts.
