Series at a Glance for Kid-O-Deo (continued)

Lesson 1: Choosing Your Crew

Who do you see the most? You might be thinking of your grown-ups, maybe a teacher, or a friend you

love spending time with. Those are the people that help you make choices every day. King Rehoboam

talked to some people that helped him make good choices, and some that wanted him to make bad

choices. This week we’ll find out how the friends Rehoboam chose changed his life, and think about

what it means to be a good friend.

Lesson 2: Rough Seas

How do you treat people you don’t like? A lot of us like to make fun of them, or just stay away from

them. That’s exactly what Jonah wanted to do when God sent him to a town called Nineveh. Jonah

didn’t like those people at all, so why would God send him there? This week, we’ll discover how we

can choose to be a good friend to others, even when we don’t feel like it.

Lesson 3: Captain’s Orders

Part of sailing is doing what the captain says. Today, our leaders might be called parents, grown-ups,

or teachers. How can we have a good relationship with them? This week, we’ll see a boy named David

choose to respect a not so great leader, and find out how showing respect to others can help us be good

friends and family members!

Lesson 4: Ahoy!

Have you ever said something you wish you could change? Once we have said something mean, angry,

or untrue, we can’t take it back. Paul knew the power of words. He used his words to help and

encourage others. In fact, we still have many of the words Paul wrote in the Bible! By exploring

through Paul’s letter to the Philippians, we’ll discover how powerful our words can be.

Lesson 5: Damage Control

Being a good friend and family member is hard! Sometimes, things will go wrong. A lot of things went

wrong for Jacob and Esau. They argued, fought, and refused to talk to each other for twenty years. This

week, we’ll find out how we can repair a broken relationship through the power of forgiveness.

Lesson 6: Sail On!

We can all be good friends and family members, but there is one relationship that is even more

important. God loves us, and wants to be our friend. That is why He sent Jesus to live on earth, and

take the punishment for the bad choices we have made. With Jesus’ help, we can sail on, and be closer

to God every day!

Welcome 3:00

Hello Kid-Os! Welcome to Kid-O-Deo! My name is _____________. I’m super excited

to be here with all of you! I can’t wait to sing about God, hear a Bible story, and get to

dance to a Kid-O-Whampus with you all. Before we get started, let’s learn the three Kid-

O-Deo rules!

Rule #1: When I’m talking you are listening!

Everyone put on your listening ears, and on the count of three, let’s practice listening!

Rule #2: Keep your hands and feet to yourself!

Do a little clap and place your hands in your lap!

Rule #3: Stay in your spot!

Let’s take our special glue sticks and put some glue on our spot to help us stay in the right

place!

Nice job! Those rules are super important. When we follow them, it helps everyone have

a good time, and pay attention.

Value 1:00

For the last couple weeks, we have been talking about how to have good friendships.

We’ve learned that we can be a good friend to everyone, because that’s how God made

us. This week, we’ll be talking about how we can do good things for our family members,

too. Kid-Os, you can be a good friend and family member. Can you repeat that after me?

I can be, I CAN BE, a good friend, A GOOD FRIEND, and family member. AND

FAMILY MEMBER.

Lesson 3

September 23/24 6

Being a good friend and family member means loving other people. God loves everyone,

and wants us to care about them, too. Let’s stand and sing this song that reminds us to

love one another!

Bible Adventure 5:00

I love singing with you, Kid-Os. I think it’s time for an adventure! What kind of adventure

do we go on here in Kid-O-Deo? A BIBLE ADVENTURE! A Bible Adventure, that’s

right! Today, to get to our Bible Adventure, we need to sail a boat. I’ll need all of you to

help me out, and act like you are sailing this kind of boat!

Let’s all make a Vroom sound, and drive our motorboats over to the Bible Adventure! Do This: Sit on the edge of the stage and “sail” your motorboat in place until the Bible Adventure

jingle ends.

Good sailing! Going on a Bible Adventure is super fun. There’s one thing we need for a

Bible Adventure, though… Do you know what it is? A BIBLE! Do This: Show kids the Bible.

Right! We need a Bible for our Bible Adventure! Kid-Os, I have a really important

question for you. Are the stories in the Bible real or pretend? REAL! That’s right, these

stories actually happened. Today’s story is about a young man named David, who had to

work with a leader who didn’t do a good job. Let’s find out what happened! Do This: Get the Bible storybook out and sit down in the chair.

This story you are going to hear comes from the Bible, but we use this storybook

because the pictures help us imagine what it might have looked like back when the

Bible was written. The pictures you see in here are the same as the ones on the screen.

Let’s get started! Do This: Have kids help you “turn” the pages on the screen with an exaggerated arm wave.

A long time ago, God’s people lived in a special land called Israel. A man named Saul

was the king of Israel. Saul had been chosen by God to be king, but he started to make

some bad choices. He disobeyed the things God said to do, and got angry at people a lot.

When Saul got angry, a young boy named David would come in to play music on the

harp, and help Saul calm down. David was good at playing music, but he was also a great

soldier. He led some of Saul’s army, and people liked him a lot!

One day, Saul heard people comparing him to David. They were saying that David was

better than Saul. King Saul didn’t like that at all. When David came in to play the harp,

Saul got up and attacked him! David was afraid, but he didn’t stop trying to do good

things for Saul.

After Saul had calmed down, David came back, and played music for him again. He

wanted to be a good friend to Saul, but Saul kept getting angrier. He chased David away

again, and this time, he followed David all the way into the desert.

David ran and hid from King Saul. He had several chances to hurt Saul or fight back, but

David always chose to be kind and respect Saul. He did this because God had put Saul in

charge, even if Saul had made some bad choices. One day later, God would make David

king of Israel.

David knew that God cared about everyone, even Saul. He gave Saul a chance to do what

was right, instead of fighting him. David showed Saul something called respect, which is

treating someone like they are important, and listening to what they say. Even though

David didn’t agree with Saul, he could respect and care about him.

Lesson 3

September 23/24 8

What an amazing story! David made an amazing choice by respecting Saul. I wonder if

that can help us be good friends and family members to our grown-ups and teachers. We’ll

find out in a couple minutes!

You listened really well, Kid-Os. We’ve gone on a Bible Adventure, so now we need to

sail to the Memory Verse! Let’s see what kind of boat will take us there.

We sail this boat by leaning left and right and letting the wind push us. Can you lean and

say “whoosh!” for the wind? Do This: Make wind sounds and steer your way through the Memory Verse jingle.

Memory Verse 3:00

This is our memory verse time. Learning verses, or words from the Bible, is awesome,

because it helps us remember what God wants us to know. Let’s see what this verse says. Do This: Read the verse from the screen.

Looking out for the good of others means watching for ways we can be kind or loving to

them. In our Bible Adventure, David was kind to Saul by showing him respect.

Everyone stand up on your feet and let’s practice our Memory Verse. You can listen and

watch me do the actions once. Then we can all start practicing it together. Do This: Practice the verse with the Kid-Os 2-3 times. Begin with your “quiet voices,” then do

it in your normal voices, and finish with your super-duper loud voices!

Know This: The verse with actions goes like this: Philippians 2:4. Look out (Hand shading your

eyes) for the good (thumbs up) of others (point both hands outward).

Great job practicing your Memory Verse, Kid-Os!

Worship 3:00

Stay on your feet, because it’s time to sing a song about God. Our God is super wonderful,

and that’s what this song is about!

Application 5:00

I love getting to sing with you! You can sit down, but while you do, get out your

spyglasses, and look for a treasure chest with me. Do you see a treasure chest anywhere

in here? Do This: Put one hand around your eye, like you are looking through a telescope. “Search” for

the treasure chest. When you find it, open it and indicate the ship on screen.

Great job! Look at that ship on the screen. Last week, we learned about the people, or

crew on the ship. This week, we are talking about one important person on every ship:

The captain. Do This: Take out a captain’s hat and put it on.

The captain is the person in charge. They might wear a hat like this one! He or she tells

everyone what to do, and makes sure that all the jobs on board the ship get done. If two

people on the ship are fighting, the captain helps them figure it out. If someone breaks the

ship’s rules, the captain has to punish them. If the ship gets lost, the captain has to figure

out what to do, and keep everyone safe. It’s an important job!

Hmm. Do you have anyone in your life who is like a captain? Someone who takes care

of you, tells you what to do, and makes rules that you have to keep? I know, grown-ups!

Lesson 3

September 23/24 10

All of us have grown ups that we have to listen to. They might be a mom or a dad, a

teacher, or even a grown-up brother or sister you have. I have a secret for you, Kid-Os.

We can be good friends to grown-ups, too!

How do we be a good friend or family member to grown-ups? The answer is one big

word: Respect. Respect means treating someone like they are important. So, when a

grown-up says something, it is respectful to listen to them. That shows them that they are

important to us. When they ask us to do something, it is respectful to do it. If we can’t do

it, or don’t want to, we can still show them respect by asking for help.

Kid-Os, do you remember the story we just heard about David? The grown up in that

story was King Saul. He wasn’t very nice. Sometimes, we won’t like what grown-ups tell

us to do, or we might meet a mean grown-up who thinks and acts like King Saul. Kid-Os,

you shouldn’t make bad choices, even if someone tells you to, but you can show respect,

even if someone isn’t very nice. David showed respect for Saul by doing kind things for

him and helping him . That’s something all of us can do for others, too.

Today, right after church, try saying something nice about your grown-ups. Tell them

something you like about them, or something you are really glad they do for you. That’s

a great way to show that you love and respect them!

Good jobs listening, Kid-Os. You can make a big difference in your families! We have

another boat to take us to the Big Idea. Let’s find out what it is!

This is a rowboat! Can you row in place, all the way to our Big Idea?

Do This: Row in place with the kids, until the Big Idea jingle ends.

Big Idea 2:00

Our Big Idea helps us remember what we have been learning today. To help us learn it,

we have a friend here named Ranger Ron! Let’s say “Hi Ranger Ron!” Know This: The Big Idea is, “Respect helps me be a good family member.”

Now it’s time for a Kid-O-Whampus! I hope you’re ready to dance!

Prayer 2:00

That was a lot of fun! You can all sit down.

Now, we get to talk to God! When we talk to God, we call that prayer. You can pray

anytime and anywhere, because God loves you, and loves to listen to you! Here in Kid-

O-Deo we fold our hands in our laps and close our eyes, to help us show him respect, and

only think about the words we are saying to God. If you want, you can repeat the words

of this prayer after me.

Dear God, we love you. Thank you for loving us. Help us to respect others, and be good

family members. Amen.
