Before Exam
• Always remember to clean the bucky before beginning exam.
• Using a 10 x 12 cassette, collimate to roughly a 5 x 5 area before positioning patient.
Positioning Patient
• Place shield on patient.
• Have patient place left side of face against the bucky.
• Check that patient’s head is in a true lateral position.
Positioning Patient
• Interpupillary line is perpendicular to film
• CR exits at the outer canthus
• Collimation should extend from behind the EAM to the nose, with the nose shadow present on the bucky.
Important Notes
• Evaluation Criteria– All facial bones are included– All potential artifacts are removed– Patient is placed in a true lateral position
• True Lateral– Superimposition of the mandibular rami– Superimposition of the orbital roofs– No rotation seen in the sella turcia
