What's Up? LET US TRY AND SAVE OUR BELOVED CRAFT BREWERIES! Welcome to the New World of social distancing! So much has happened in the past week, that it feels like a nightmare that we will awake from in a cold sweat shortly. Sadly, this is all too real, and the independent UK Craft breweries and retailers are going to be fighting for their lives in the coming months. However, two things have not changed. The UK Craft breweries still have amazing beer to sell,
and the UK Craft Beer Community still wants to drink it. (In fact, I have never felt more in need of a drink!) You will notice some dramatic changes in This Week in Craft Beer this week, which we make no apologies for. We have pivoted substantially this week, to throw ourselves 100% behind helping our amazing industry to publicise their Emergency Plans, as far and wide as possible. We are running a lot more adverts this week, and there will be still more in the coming weeks. If your local brewery or retailer are not featured yet, please suggest to them that they reach out us, to claim their COMPLETELY FREE advert next week, and every week until the madness subsides. Drinkers: recognise that buying directly from the brewery is a huge boost to their bottom line. Now is not the time to be buying beer from the supermarkets! You can inject much more money into a brewery’s budget by buying direct from them. Please also remember your amazing local bottle shops at this time. Bottle shops work on pretty thin margins at the best of times, so they also need your custom, if you want them to be around when the dust settles. Finally, this is a moment to be aware of who owns the brewery you want to support. Breweries owned by big companies will survive this shock. The independent brewery down the street is going to have a lot harder time doing so. Spend your money wisely. Hint: some of the breweries you think are independent are actually owned by Carlsberg, Heineken, Lion Brands or other multi-national companies with very deep pockets to help their interests see this crisis through. Maybe do a little research? You probably have the time :-)

Pomona Island Brewing Filigree & Shadow 12% Barley Wine Aged in a Tomintoul 14 year old ex Sherry Butt courtesy of Chorlton Whiskey. The whiskey had a mature sherry profile and notes of dried fruits and spice.
Pomona Island Brewing Narcissus & Goldmund 12% Barley Wine Aged in an Armagnac Oak Barrel. The brandy was rich and warming with notes of vanilla, stewed fruits and spice that marry perfectly with the character of the beer.
Cloudwater Brew Co. Here’s Another Thing To Think About 8% West Coast Imperial IPA Punchy hop bomb that is clean and smooth, balancing the sweetness of dried apricot and light caramel with juicy orange pulp, pithy grapefruit and sticky pine.
Vault City Brewing Peach & Nectarine Sour 5.6% Sour Classic sherbet-like acidity and stone fruits. Finished off with a touch of Madagascan vanilla to round out on the finish with a peaches and custard vibe.
Vault City Brewing SIPA v2 7% Sour IPA A variant yeast strain and a huge dryhop of Citra 7 Enigma for more stone fruit and tropical notes.

Brewgooder Chilloozy 3.7% IPA A easy drinking session IPA inspired by, and named after, the first clean water project that their foundation funded in the Chiluzi area of Malawi.

Mad Squirrel Brewery Post Run Pale 3.7% Pale Ale This pale ale is brewed with the new hop variety Sabro, which showcases distinct stone fruit and tangerine notes.
Brew By Numbers 10|Coffee Porter Espresso Martini 6% Coffee Porter Collab with Climpson and Sons. Brewed with Fazenda Santissimo coffee beans, cold-infused with vanilla beans and rum-soaked cacao, Stacked with flavours of cold brew coffee, subtle vanilla and a dry coffee finish.
Gipsy Hill Brewing Co. Thumper 3.9% Milk Stout Collab with CGBG. Chocolate Milk Stout, conditioned on Cacao nibs with added lactose. It’s got big, rich chocolate flavours.
Gipsy Hill Brewing Co. Sun Trap 6.5% NEIPA New hop variety Bru-1 to sit alongside the stalwart Simcoe to create a huge ripe stone-fruit aroma and clean citrus flavours.
Gipsy Hill Brewing Co. Space Coyote 11% Imperial Stout Imperial Stout loaded up with vanilla, cacao nibs, and ancho chillies to create an 11% oral assault course.
Gipsy Hill Brewing Co. Gruff 6.8% Red Maibock Specific malts from Bamburg and used Mahrs Bräu’s house yeast to deliver a full bodied, complex, malty lager that’s full of depth and character.
Gipsy Hill Brewing Co. Well Digger 4.9% Weiss Beer Blood Orange Weiss beer – all the body, sweet esters and malty-ness of a traditional Weiss, with an added layer of sweet Blood Orange.
Deya Brewing Co. Something Good 3 6.2% IPA CRYO Simcoe & Amarillo IPA. A restrained malt profile, CRYO hops, house IPA water profile and yeast, and a new dry hopping process designed to squeeze every last drop of juice out.
Stewart Brewing Hot Head 5.5% Kveik IPA Fermented at high temperatures with a unique strain of yeast from Norway called HotHead kveik, which contributes big overripe mango and sweet honey flavours to the beer. Dry hop of Columbus BBC, Mosaic and Amarillo add tropical, citrus and stone fruit flavour.
Stewart Brewing Highway 101 6.7% West Coast IPA Traditional West Coast IPA. A crisp, clean malt base including chit, wheat and dextrin malts. HBC 431 and Amarillo are added to the dry hop which imparts big citrus and herbal flavours.
Stewart Brewing Gooseberry Gose 4.7% Sour Gose A light malt base which is soured with Lactobacillus Plantarum allows the distinctive fruity character of the Nelson Sauvin hops to shine through. Pink Himalayan salt and gooseberry juice give a super refreshing character to the beer.
The Wild Beer Company No Water 4.7% Milk Stout Chocolate Orange Milkshake Milk Stout where all of the water was replaced with WHEY from their neighbours at Westcombe Dairy.
Shindigger Brewing Co. Big Splash 5% Pale Ale A fruity 5% pale number with a healthy dose of Sabro and Cryo Idaho 7 hops.
Cloudwater Brew Co. Subbles 10% TIPA Collab with The Veil. Sabro, Citra and Galaxy hops create a TIPA that has juicy, tropical fruit flavours, alongside intriguing notes of smooth, creamy coconut and key lime pie.
North Brewing Co. Kveik IPA 7% IPA Collab with Stillwater Artisanal. Big, thick and creamy. Flavours of stone fruits, mango and pear, developing into a subtle spicy bitter finish.
Salt Beer Factory These Things I Believe 8.4% DIPA Collab with Beergooder. A west coast DIPA with aromas of mango, lychee and pine, with balanced bitterness.
Salt Beer Factory Isobar 11.8% Imperial Stout Collab with Atom Beers. A rich imperial stout brewed with caramel, cacao and vanilla.
Cloudwater Brew Co. From Mountains Rivers Flow 6% IPA Collab with Odell Brewing Co. A smooth and deep malt profile balanced by juicy flavours of tangerine, peach and blackcurrant, capped off by a long, finish that blends a light marmalade bitterness with tangy orange pulp and hedgerow notes.
North Brew Co. North x Dugges Stout 7.5% Stout Real depth of flavour due to the complex malt bill - 35 sacks with 8 different malts. This is combined with heaps of coffee, lashings of cacao nibs, with sweet vanilla and Tonka beans.
Electric Bear Brewing Kazbek The Friendly Ghost 5.5% IPA Brewed with Kazbek hops. Lemon, spice and bubblegum in a sessionable pale body.

EMERGENCY PLAN GUIDANCE FOR BREWERS In the last 24 hours, we have been impressed with the creativity and innovation being displayed by our Industry. If you need some inspiration, here is a handy guide to what the Breweries in the State of Oregon, USA are offering: https://www.beervanablog.com/beervana/2020/3/18/Buying-Guide-to-Oregon-Beer General consensus seems to be that breweries should be thinking seriously about:
• Local Delivery Service • Selling Gift Cards • Extending opening hours for off-sales
Breweries who are in at least a semi-urban location could implement a delivery service, at a reasonable cost. However, care is needed to ensure the recipient is over the legal drinking age. Another good idea is selling Gift Cards in a range of values, valid for taproom credit for 12 months from date of issue. No need for any fancy gift card designs or complicated workflow - just an email containing a receipt and a serial number will suffice. (As an added bonus, this is a great way to obtain the email addresses of customers!) A simple list behind the counter that is amended as vouchers are used is quite sufficient. To facilitate customer’s desire to buy take out cans and bottles and to avoid contact with others, opening hours may need to be extended. Going contactless and card only will also avoid the risk of cash changing hands. (Obviously payments over £30 will still require a PIN entry) There are several UK Taprooms offering significant discounts to NHS and Emergency Services workers, and also to other society groups who are either being called upon to provide extra public service or have been significantly impacted by the current situation.
