As of March 31, 2009, Microsoft has retired the 12 exams related to the Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD), Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD) and Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) certifications. These exams focus on technologies no longer included in Microsoft mainstream support. If you currently hold one of these certifications, your certification is still valid in the marketplace for as long as employers seek skills on related technologies. Please contact your local New Horizons Computer Learning Center today for upgrade paths to either the Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) or the Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD).

The Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) credential is for professionals who have the skills to successfully implement a Microsoft product or technology as part of a business solution in an organization. Hands-on experience with a product is necessary to successfully achieve certifica-tion.

Work on live equipment, not simulations. Most learning teaches you theory. Only vLabs from New Horizons gives you real hands-on practice with access to live equipment. And, when it comes to preparing to solve on-the-job business problems using different information technologies, there’s no substitute for hands-on experience with real equipment. vLabs eliminate equipment investment and risk. Consider the potential costs and risks of giving novice student’s unlimited access to servers and software. Real equipment like this can run into six figures if you buy it and costly monthly charges if you lease it. With vLabs, there’s no need to worry about purchasing or sustaining damage to production systems. Students appreciate vLabs, too. Since the vLab experience duplicates the real world, students actually get to manage their own devices to practice and reinforce their newly learned skills in a safe, risk-free environment.

Project Management Training Employment Trends• Out of 13 advertisements for project manager jobs posted on CIO.com and Dice.com, 8 ads either require or prefer project management certification.

• All 8 ads are for mid- to senior-level IT project management positions that require anywhere from a minimum of 5 to 11+ more years of experience.

• 5 of the 8 ads say project management certification is “highly desirable,” “an advantage,” “preferred,” or “a plus.” The three ads that require certification all specify the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP) credential.

• More and more CIOs believe in the importance of project management certifications, according to research from The Standish Group. The publisher of the CHAOS reports which track IT project success and failure rates says that two-thirds of CIOs it surveyed regard a PMI certification as valuable. The number of CIOs who require their project managers to be certified grew from 21% percent in 2005 to 31% percent by 2009.
