CYBERBULLYING

Erasmus+ project ‘’Technology addiction in adolescents.’’ Edgars Šuriņš Riga Secondary school No. 18

WHAT IS CYBERBULLYING?

• Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place over digital devices like cell phones, computers, and tablets. Cyberbullying can occur through SMS, Text, and apps, or online in social media, forums, or gaming where people can view, participate in, or share content.

WHAT IS BULLYING?• Bullying is unwanted, aggressive

behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. • Looking at US charts, bullying is a

really big problem. • Most of school shooting incidents in

US are caused by bullying, because they want to seek revenge and do harm to bullies that picked on them through out their school life.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CYBERBULLYING AND BULLYING?

• To answer this question quick and simple, cyberbullying is bullying that takes place on internet, through out SMS, or any other place in online world.

• Bullying is situation where victim is getting harrased physically and mentally. For example, how they look, their weight, height, and other horrible things that bullies can imagine.

WHAT ARE THE KINDS OF CYBERBULLYING?

• There are 10 kinds of cyberbullying: • 1. Exclusion. • 2. Harassment. • 3. Outing/Doxing. • 4. Trickery. • 5. Cyberstalking. • 6. Fraping. • 7. Masquerading. • 8. Dissing. • 9. Trolling. • 10. Flaming.

EXCLUSION

• Exclusion is the act of leaving someone out deliberately. • Exclusion exists with in-person bullying

situations, is also used online to target and bully a victim. • For example, your friend is invited to

the party but you are not.

HARASSMENT.

• Harassment is pattern of threatening or hurtful online messages, intentions of doing harm.

• Harassing someone is the most common method of online bullying.

• This type of cyberbullying occurs when someone uses one of these strategies to torment another person.

OUTING/DOXING

• Outing, also known as doxing, refers to the act of openly revealing sensitive or personal information about someone without their consent for humiliation. • This can range from the spreading of

personal photos/ documents of public figures to sharing an individual’s saved personal messages in an online private group.

TRICKERY

• Trickery is similar to outing, with an added element of deception.

• Simpler meaning would be bully gaining trust over the victim.

• Trickery is the act of deceiving someone into giving out personal information to you or publishing it.

• This is almost the same as outing, except the person does not give out the information willingly.

CYBERSTALKING

• Cyberstalking is a particularly serious form of cyberbullying that can extend to threats of physical harm to the child being targeted. • It can include monitoring, false

accusations, threats, and is often accompanied by offline stalking. • It is a criminal offense and can result

in a restraining order, probation, and even jail time for the perpetrator.

FRAPING

• Fraping is when a bully uses your child’s social networking accounts to post inappropriate content with their name.

• For example, a bully posting racial/homophobic slurs to ruin their reputation.

• Framing other person on the web, making them look bad among other people.

• Fraping is pretty powerful method that bullies use to get in victims head.

• That’s why I suggest to never share your password with anyone.

• The best way to not get fraped is using different kinds of passwords on social media, which are powerful and can’t be hacked that easily.

MASQUERADING

• Masquerading happens when a bully creates a made up profile or identity online with the sole purpose of cyberbullying someone.

• This could involve creating a fake email account, fake social media profile, and selecting a new identity and photos to fool the victim.

• In these cases, the bully tends to be someone the victim knows quite well.

DISSING

• Dissing refers to the act of a bully spreading cruel information about their target. • Through public posts or private

messages to either ruin their reputation or relationships with other people. • In these situations, the bully tends to

have a personal relationship with the victim, either as an acquaintance or as a friend.

TROLLING

• Trolling is when a bully will seek out to intentionally upset others by posting hurtful comments online. • Trolling may not always be a form of

cyberbullying, but it can be used as a tool to cyberbully. • These bullies tend to be more

detached from their victims, and do not have a personal relationship.

FLAMING

• This type of online bullying constitutes of posting about or directly sending insults and profanity to their target. • Flaming is similar to trolling, but will

usually be a more direct attack on a victim to incite them into online fights.

HOW CAN WE STOP CYBERBULLYING?

• 5 signs that you should keep in mind! • Don’t share your accounts with

anyone, accounts are made only for you and your use ONLY. • If you think you are getting harassed

then save any evidence that you can, for example, them calling you innapropriate words, anything that could be in your favor.

• Sometimes just asking the person is enough for them to understand and stop harassing you. • If you see that bullying doesn’t stop,

then ask for someone that can help, like who can listen to your problems and help sort things out. • If classmate is bullying you, you

should save any evidence of bullying and report it to schools staff.
