COLLEGE LEADERS LAUNCH NEW EVENT College Leaders made a very special announcement to students and staff in Chapel on Tuesday with the Launch of a new event titled ‘Spirit Week’.
‘Spirit Week has been created by the College Leaders and Faith Student Council, with an idea to simply encourage excitement and team spirit within Villages in the lead up to one of the biggest events in Faith’s calendar, Athletics Day. Events scheduled for the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of week 7 will build on a sense of pride and team spirit for students and staff within their Villages and the entire College.
There will be various activities ranging from live music during lunch breaks, a ‘Village Colours Day’ where students and staff can show off their Village shirts, capes and colours, and a ‘Sports Themed Casual Day’ for students to dress in their local sporting team uniforms or favourite AFL team gurneys. Prior to Spirit Week, students within their Villages will also be creating a new Village banner.
We hope ‘Spirit Week’ inspires more students to participate in Athletics Day whether it be in an individual or Novelty event. We are also really excited to announce that a short video using footage from Spirit Week will be created and shown to the Junior Campus to see if they would like to recreate their own idea of Spirit Week’. College Leaders explain.
The Spirit Week concept was presented by Ruby Lehmann and Rachael Matthews at last week’s Faith
College Staff Meeting. The College Leaders and Student Council have been commended on their creative initiative and support from both students and staff has been positive. Parents and Caregivers are encouraged to attend Athletics day scheduled for Friday March 16 where the excitement of Spirit Week will culminate into a fantastic College event.
College Leaders Thomas Krahling, Rachael Matthews, Naomi Wilson, Ruby Lehmann and Matthew Liersch set the tone for Team Spirit at Aquatics Day last week.

COLLEGE LEADERS UPDATEYear 12 College Leaders recently attended a leadership conference at Nunyara Conference Centre, Belair, SA.Rachael Matthews shares ‘ The Australian Lutheran Leadership Conference run by YLead was an energetic, fun-filled three days that turned out to be a significant, life changing experience for us all. I definitely encourage all future student leaders at Faith to embrace their time at YLead through meeting other leaders from various schools in the state, and the opportunity to make life-long relationships with people tracking through the same leadership journey’.

PICKING GRAPES AT ST HALLETT WINES VINEYARDSafe work practices, operating machinery and teamwork were amongst the learning outcomes experienced by Year 10 students Lewis Cowham, Brady Griffiths, Archie Hadden, Lewis Lloyde, Joshua Newman and Jake Noack as they picked approximately 2 tonne of Semillon from the St Hallett property on February 13. The fruit looked good and students eagerly participated in finding out how to use the crusher, airbag press and pump. Mr Mitchell explained the importance of not oxidising the fruit and keeping it cool, reiterating the delicate nature of making a quality white wine.
DECLARATION OF VINTAGE
College Leaders Matthew Liersch, Ruby Lehmann, Rachael Matthews, Naomi Wilson and Thomas Krahling
Every year on the third Sunday of February, the Barons come together in Tanunda and declare the vintage. The first picked grapes are blessed in the historic Tabor Church, paraded along the main street by Faith College students and crushed, before the juice is sampled at Keil Garden. Source - Barons of Barossa.
Representing Faith College are Year 9 students Ben Scholz, Lydia Semmler, Lauren Cornish, Courtney Mardle, Jordi Wilksch, Tabrett Roocke, Annabelle Pinchbeck, and Lachlan Thompson.

SHROVE TUESDAYZWEIMAL (TWICE) SCHNELLBy Jason Rosenzweig Pedal Prix
Something exciting is happening in the 10th year of Pedal Prix racing at Faith Lutheran College! We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of a new vehicle to race alongside our current vehicle, “Über Schnell”. The new vehicle will include some of the latest human powered vehicle technology including a system that allows every rider to sit in the optimal riding position. This results in maximum power being converted to on-track performance.
The addition of a second vehicle means we can offer Pedal Prix as an activity within the middle school. This has been met with an enthusiastic response from Year 8 and 9 students.
The teams have begun preparations for another action packed year of racing. However one important thing still stands; what do we name the new vehicle? Our very first vehicle was nicknamed “Schnell” during its final year of racing before it was retired. “Über Schnell” has raced successfully for the past four years. So what is quicker than “Über Schnell”?
To help us compete this year we are seeking assistance and sponsorship from within the community. Your support allows students to experience the thrill and challenge of competing against others. It also develops a range of skills including innovation, collaboration, confidence and risk-taking in a supportive environment.
We are particularly looking to find a solution to transporting two vehicles to race events.
If you or your business are able to support the team, please contact Jason Rosenzweig by phoning the College on 8561 4200, or [email protected]

Well done to all students that tried out. It was very difficult to select a team with such a large amount of people coming out to trial and the depth of talent that was on display.
You are still part of our overall cricket squad and may be called into the team if it moves into further rounds of the competition or if there are injuries.

AQUATICS DAY 2018 Weather conditions led to a modified program, however it was pleasing to see almost double the number of students participating in the individual swimming events. Competition was steady and the outward display of sportsmanship attributed to the fantastic poolside atmosphere. It was particularly encouraging to see all Villages represented in the Championship events and some late entries on the day for the Girls 100m freestyle. Congratulations to all competitors and particular acknowledgement to students selected to compete in the SSSA Swimming Carnival at the SA Aquatics Centre (Marion) on Monday March 5.
