Social Media & You: Dress To ImpressLinkedIn

Formal

All professional, all the time. Your virtual resume.

Facebook

Business Casual

Know your friends: it’s a class reunion, company picnic and neighborhood block party rolled into one.

Twitter

Business Cocktail

Dazzle them, working the room, collecting cards and making contacts all night long. Twitter is the cocktail party that never closes.

Don’t Bring Social Media to the Party

Got my drunk text on,

I’ll regret it in the mornin’, but tonight,

I don’t give a I don’t give a I don’t give a

Texting and email can be dangerous too.

DM: Sends a tweet directly to another twitter user (private)

RT: Retweet someone's tweet

Hashtags: The # symbol is used to mark keywords or topics

Special Considerations for Lawyers

Do not provide legal advice or counsel

Do not take a position on legal issues

Do not express opinions regarding people or controversial topics

Do not discuss employer’s business or clients

Rules of professional responsibility apply

Uh, don’t do that.

Facebook status:

Opening discovery on a DUI case and seeing "refusal" for a blood test is as exciting as getting exactly what you wanted for your birthday. Even better when I see "refusal" AND "did not consent to voluntary roadside maneuvers." There's a reason they call them "voluntary" folks (in legal terms, they're just building probable cause to arrest you for DUI). Yay! It's a good Friday!

Voice your concern or opinion, then move along.

Take a breath, count to 10, play angry birds.

Remember, brands are run by real people.

Ask yourself if you would feel comfortable making your comments face-to-face.

Don’t be a troll.
