Roxar CorrLog DHigh Accuracy Corrosion Monitoring

IntroductionProtecting the integrity and extending the life ofupstream assets is the number one priority for operatorstoday. That’s why the Roxar CorrLog D provides thecomplete corrosion monitoring solution.

Together with Emerson's Roxar range of corrosionprobes and software solutions, Roxar CorrLog D provides high accuracy Electrical Resistance (ER), LinearPolarization Resistance (LPR) and galvanic probemeasurements from the same instrument. Roxar CorrLog D is provided in explosion proof design, for service in hazardous areas, and with state of the art performance and flexibility.

Multipurpose Instrument• High accuracy Electrical Resistance (ER) probe function• Linear Polarization Resistance (LPR) function• Galvanic Probe function• Same probe cable and connections for all

functions above

Improved Performance• More loggers per cable loop• More frequent measurements• Can read probes from most common suppliers• Updated electronics, improved performance

High Accuracy • 24 bit resolution, or 0.067 ppm of probe element thickness• Power and communication via Field Interface Unit (FIU D)• No internal batteries in instrument units• All raw data available for user for review and verification

Roxar Fieldwatch Software • Set up and control of system• Data management and reporting• Data sharing between multiple locations• Alarms and communication to main control systems

via OPC or Modbus protocols

System DescriptionCorrosion Probes are connected through a probe cable to the Roxar CorrLlog D instrument (max length 20 meters). This adds flexibility for instrument access even if the probes are installed at inaccessible locations.

Roxar CorrLog D and the Field Interface Unit (FIU D) are powered by an external 24VDC power supply andcommunicate via the same Field Bus Cable. The FIU D must be installed in safe zone (normally in a cabinet in the control room), but can also be installed in an explosion proof enclosure in hazardous area.

Data is forwarded from FIU D to a PC server where Roxar Fieldwatch software is installed. A range of communication options are available, RS 232, RS 485,GPS/GPRS, radio, etc. Roxar Fieldwatch is a multiple usersoftware that provide analysis and reporting functions, and communicates with main control systems through OPC or Modbus protocols.

Measurement PrinciplesRoxar CorrLog D features three different measurement principles in one instrument. This means that the sameinstrument can be used for different types of probes, and probe types can be changed without changing theinstrument or cables.

ER Probe MeasurementsER probe measurements are based on measuring changes in resistance of the probe's measurement element and comparing this with the resistance of a reference elementthat is not exposed to corrosion. Metal loss (and metal lossrates) is calculated from the changed resistance value ratiobetween the two elements. Roxar CorrLog D performshigh accuracy measurements of resistance individually ineach probe element, with a 24 digit resolution.

Raw data (resistance values) are transferred to the RoxarFieldwatch program, where they are converted to metalloss. Raw data access enables probe data for verifying the condition of the probe and to track and compensatefor temperature changes on the probe. Additionaltemperature compensation of the data can be done inFieldwatch software should that be required.

Due to its open and flexible design, Roxar CorrLog D canread probes from most manufacturers, including probesin the market named as "high accuracy probes".

LPR Probe MeasurementsLPR (Linear Polarization Resistance) measurements arebased on measuring the current response to a small polarization of the probe's working electrode in a 2- or 3- electrode configuration. The corrosion rate is proportional to the measured current response, andutilizing empiric factors, the corrosion rate can be determined directly from one measurement only.

LPR measurements require a conductive electrolyte (water) to perform, and are therefore normally used in water containing systems only.

Galvanic Probe MeasurementsGalvanic Probe measurements are based on measuring the galvanic current between a brass and a carbon steelelectrode, which are electrically connected through theRoxar CorrLog D meter. The galvanic current depends onthe oxygen level. The galvanic probe is a fast response sensor for detecting oxygen where oxygen should not be present. Galvanic probes should not be used forquantifying oxygen levels.

Integrated Flow Assurance Monitoring SystemRoxar CorrLog D forms a part of an integrated flowassurance monitoring offering from Roxar, that alsoincludes:

• Intrusive Sand/Erosion Monitoring (Roxar SandLog D)

• Non-intrusive corrosion monitoring (Roxar FSM)

• Non-intrusive acoustic sand monitoring (Roxar SAM)

• Non-intrusive acoustic pig detectors

• All integrated in one cabinet, and controlled byRoxar Fieldwatch Software

Integration of the functions above provides commercial and technical advantages in the project, installation, training and after sales support phases - in addition toreduced hardware requirements since the same cabinet, cabling, and server can be used for multiple functions.
