“A less traumatic approach: non-invasive medical devices”

Host: Professor Tuan Nguyen Prof Hung T. Nguyen received his BE degree with First Class Honours and University Medal in 1976 and PhD degree in 1980 from the University of Newcastle in Australia. He is currently Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology at UTS. He is also Professor of Electrical Engineering and Co-director of the Centre for Health Technologies. From 2003 to 2009 he was Associate Dean, Research and Development in the Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology. His current research is in the area of developing new technologies for the effective prediction, diagnosis and rehabilitation of diabetes, neurological disorder, cancer and heart disease. His team has commercialised a non-invasive hypoglycaemia monitor (HypoMon) for patients with diabetes, implemented hands free control systems in powered wheelchairs (Aviator) for people with a severe disability, designed a stealth-based system for early detection of breast cancer, and developed an EEG-based system for monitoring and prevention of driver fatigue. Prof Nguyen has published more than 200 fully-refereed research articles and 8 full patents.
