Leaders of Learning

Page 2: Leaders of Learning Assignment

My Hypothesis• People learn best when they want to be inspired, actually

get inspired, share their inspirations and ultimately will inspire others with the new learning and its application.• In my view learning starts from a free choice to find truth in

knowledge, to acquire new ideas, and to gain independence (to become a free-thinking individual not constrained on what others want you to do).• This may occur in difficult circumstances, but if there is a will,

a yearning inside, and perseverance as well as patience, people will be able to develop themselves to the best of their ability and their personal preferences, irrespective of the physical or digital space constraints.• If they can develop, they can better support (or better inspire)

others in their learning journey.

By learning …• Almost anything is possible

with time – Jane Austin• My modification: Anything is

possible – keep learning and lead others in their learning journey during their full life time.• Mostly I am characterized as

being in the distributed individual mode combined with the distributive collective one.

Distributed and hierarchical modes combined - 1

• My current learning happens in difference spaces. Presently I learn most online by following online courses or reading material from interesting websites. I also learn offline by reading (sitting comfortably) textbooks and scientific articles. All have in common that my learning spaces should be freely accessible, open at any time of the day (also in the night), ideally having internet connection, and seating around a large table where I can learn from my computer, read other material and make notes (and have some space for drinks and food). I need to have space around me. It does not matter whether people are around, as long they respect learners and the need for not making too much noise. The advantage of having people around me is that I can discuss some newly learned material with them in another space around.

Distributed and hierarchical modes combined - 2

• After my individual learning I want to communicate with other learners and exchange my newly learned knowledge, raise new ideas, and debate about certain topics, preferably around a nice large round table so everybody can express its voice. In such environment I would like to work with people with a variety of diverse interests, knowledge and skills as I strongly believe that mixing disciplines lead to new and better performance. People needs to be curious, asking questions, try and error approaches, not afraid to fail. Each contribution is respected and valued in its own right.

I also like to share my knowledge and experience to others, as such as distributed learner I see myself providing (guest) lecturers in hierarchical environments. In the end, I hope to encourage people and inspire them, giving them new food for thought for their learning journeys.

Encourage creativity by creating a positive environment through:a) Emphasizing art and spontaneity;b) Including role-play, drama and

script-writing to explain new concepts;

c) Using storytelling, free verse poetry, fairy tales to explain conceptual issues;

d) Make us of mindmapping tools, such as Mindmapper.
