Leadership New Mexico has had a profound impact on our state. In 16 years, the organization has given nearly 1,000 business, community, and government leaders unique insight into New Mexico’s many opportunities and challenges. Our alumni from 74 communities have gone on to address those issues with deeper understanding. They represent a priceless investment in New Mexico’s future.

This past year was another year of growth for Leadership New Mexico. We welcomed nearly 100 new graduates from Leadership New Mexico’s three programs to our steadily growing community of alumni. The new graduates returned to their communities with a passion and commitment to address New Mexico’s critical issues.

In all of our programs, Leadership New Mexico creates a collaborative environment for open and constructive learning and sharing. Thank you to our dedicated volunteers, speakers, sponsors, and staff who tirelessly work to accomplish Leadership New Mexico’s mission. They share the collective belief that New Mexico’s future prosperity depends upon the quality of its leadership.

Leadership New Mexico’s alumni represent an invaluable investment in New Mexico’s future for many generations to come. Alumni have shown their commitment to creating positive change in the state by giving generously to Leadership New Mexico’s Endowment, created in 2009. Lifetime memberships as well as personal and corporate gifts to the endowment have a direct long-term impact on the vitality of Leadership New Mexico. We are honored that 101

lifetime members invested in our organization so far.

Our alumni have the opportunity to improve the livelihood of families and businesses in the state as well as preserve the culture of New Mexico. We are confident that Leadership New Mexico will continue to accomplish its mission of inspiring leaders to make a difference, create a better future for the state, and touch thousands of lives across the state. We encourage you to join us in our ongoing endeavor to make a significant and positive impact on the quality of life in New Mexico.

We thank all of you who have worked to make Leadership New Mexico’s vision a reality.

Sincerely,

Core Program

This is a 10-month program designed to address critical issues in New Mexico. Each session features expert speakers and offers an opportunity for inquiry, analysis, and the development of solutions to some of New Mexico’s most pressing problems. Each program year includes educational sessions on topics such as health and human services, economic development, education, environment, natural resources, government, crime, and justice. The Core Program brings together a group of influential leaders from around the state for an educational and inspirational experience that is unique to Leadership New Mexico. The diversity of perspectives of each participant, the breadth of knowledge and expertise of the speakers, and the distinct communities in which program sessions are held are the most valuable components of the Core Program.

LoCaL government LeadershiP Program

This program is an educational partnership of the New Mexico Municipal League, the New Mexico Association of Counties, the New Mexico School Boards Association, and Leadership New Mexico. These organizations joined to provide a unique educational experience for municipal and county officials, members of the National Guard, local school boards, and regional councils of governments. The curriculum is patterned after the Leadership New Mexico Core Program and designed to offer civic leaders the opportunity to explore the critical issues facing New Mexico and to participate in skill-building workshops. The Local Government Leadership Program seeks to prepare local officials with the background and knowledge necessary to undertake their civic responsibility and instill in them a passion for effective and ethical public service.

ConneCt new mexiCo

Connect New Mexico “The Next Generation of Leadership” is a program for professionals around the state who are 25-40 years old. The curriculum combines elements of the Core Program and the Local Government Leadership Program and includes leadership skills development. The program is designed to offer young professionals the opportunity to develop personal leadership skills, learn how New Mexico systems and structures work, and explore the critical issues facing the state. The process encourages participants to cultivate new ideas and leadership techniques and helps participants understand some of New Mexico’s most pressing issues and challenges. The Connect New Mexico Program creates a bond between young professionals, the communities they live in, and the state of New Mexico, while helping them gain the skills they need to be effective and influential leaders. The program provides participants with tools they can take back to their communities to develop positive change and create initiatives to improve the quality of life.

the aLumni Program

The Alumni Program is designed to further the education and challenge the thinking and perspectives of graduates. In addition, interaction of graduates from other classes exposes them to a diversity of education, experiences, and regional perspectives, as well as helps to develop the professional and personal relationships that are one of the most valuable aspects of Leadership New Mexico.

Leadership New Mexico appreciates the generosity of the following speakers for volunteering their time, expertise, and

resources to Leadership New Mexico’s programs in 2011-2012.

In 2009, Leadership New Mexico created the Lifetime Membership Campaign

for alumni and friends of the organization. In lieu of paying annual membership

dues, a graduate, business or friend of the organization may elect a lifetime

membership by making a donation that entitles him or her to all benefits of

alumni membership. Lifetime membership donations are invested in the

Leadership New Mexico Endowment.

Leadership New Mexico established the Endowment to collectively generate a

permanent source of income to offset administrative expenses, thereby allowing

Leadership New Mexico to focus fundraising efforts exclusively on program

expenses; provide a financial cushion against lean times; and help ensure that

Leadership New Mexico’s mission is sustained in perpetuity.

If you would like to support the Endowment or purchase a lifetime membership,

please contact Leadership New Mexico. These are tax-deductable, charitable

donations. Donations may be made through United Way by specifying Leadership

New Mexico on your pledge form.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed

citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing

that ever has.
