Program Schedule

Session DescriptionsFree Enterprise and the Global EconomyThis session, led by a noted economist, discusses the ideas of entrepreneurship and how entrepreneurs fit into CARQUEST, the automotive industry, as well as the US and global economy. An in-depth discussion of the US economy from both an automotive and non-automotive perspective clearly defines the landscape in which all businesses operate. It includes a fascinating look at what the economy will look like in both the short and long term, allowing small businesses the ability to adapt their organizations to an ever-changing and dynamic free market.

State of the Aftermarket: Where the Industry is Headed Once the foundations of the broad business landscape are identified, this session takes a deep dive into the trends that shape today’s motor vehicle parts and service industry within North America. Macro trends and data will be presented that show where the industry is headed and how small businesses can take advantage of these trends.

Economic & SWOT DiscussionThis facilitated class discussion will take the data presented in the previous two sessions and formulate a parts store-focused SWOT analysis. A SWOT analysis looks at the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats in a given market. It is an extremely useful tool when formulating strategies that take advantage of external opportunities and threats through the analysis of internal strengths and weaknesses.

HR: Putting the Right People in the Right PlacesPeople really do make all the difference – but only if they are in the correct place in an organization. This interactive session takes a hard look at how business owners attempt to lead and manage their employees and some of the pitfalls that often result. Participants will learn what their primary leadership style is and how it can be altered depending on the situation.

Independent Store Accounting & FinanceAn independent CARQUEST store finance and accounting expert will walk participants through basic and advanced financial topics, including analysis of store sales, gross profit, fixed vs variable expenses, break-even analysis and other important financial store measurements.

Matching Customer Needs to Strategy This important session will ask an important question: What is important to your customers and how can your strategy meet those needs? This session, led by a CARQUEST representative, will take a look at the service dealer market, discussing their issues and problems and how an independent CARQUEST store differentiate itself in the eyes of their customers by being a solutions provider.

CARQUEST Strategy: Implementation and Execution for Your BusinessThis session led by CARQUEST’s Director, Integrated Marketing, who will discuss the steps by which to implement and execute the components of the CARQUEST program in your business. Expanding upon the customer needs strategy session, specific and measurable actions available in partnership with CARQUEST will be presented that will move your business forward.
