Leadership Osceola County is an unsurpassed leadership development program that began in 1989. Each year approximately 30 people who represent the diversity of the Osceola County community are inducted into the program. Over the course of the program, participants are introduced to our community through real life experiences. The class learns about the strengths and challenges of the community in which they live and work. In addition, participants receive skills-based knowledge with a focus on leadership development. The Leadership Osceola program kicks off in mid-February with a two-day team building retreat. Comprised of an excursion to a remote Central Florida location, the Friday and Saturday experience is designed to remove the class participants from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and allow their total immersion into the leadership experience. The retreat also serves to bring leadership participants together as a group to encourage active participation and camaraderie during the rest of the program. After successfully completing the challenges presented at the retreat, the remainder of the Leadership Osceola County program proceeds on a bi-weekly basis. These Wednesday meetings lead

the participants through a series of invigorating and insightful daylong experiences that cover a multitude of community oriented subjects and issues including social services, criminal justice, education, emergency services, government, environment, economic development, community planning/vision and arts & culture. No stone is left unturned in the pursuit of community orientation and leadership awareness. The program culminates in mid-June with an enjoyable graduation ceremony hosted by a Central Florida attraction and includes participants from the Leadership Legends program. Upon graduation, Leadership graduates are highly energized and ready to complete a community betterment project. Activities in the past include the development and creation of a senior housing project, a community painting and clean-up day and financial support for Leadership Osceola scholarships. The Leadership Osceola Class of 2014, in honor of the program’s 25th anniversary, coordinated a cruise raffle to support Community Vision. Additionally, a committee comprised of LOC alum, joined forces to plan a Silver Anniversary Graduation extravaganza with dinner, dancing, and silent auction. More than 225 Leadership Osceola and Legends graduates attended the celebration. The 25th anniversary efforts raised more than $20K for Community Vision programs and initiatives.

Leadership Legends is a partnership program with the Osceola Council on Aging that provides leadership development and community awareness for active seniors. Through real life experiences, the class learns of the strengths and challenges of the community in which they live. On a biweekly basis, the program leads the participants through a series of invigorating and insightful daylong activities. These experiences open the door for increased citizen engagement and civic pride. Upon graduation, this energized group of newly trained, mature adults tackles various community issues and projects. Class projects have included the planning of a Mardi Gras fundraiser for the Council on Aging, creating a Legends alumni association, and purchasing and installing ceiling fans in a senior community center.

The Leadership Legends Class of 2014 has continued their community involvement. At the conclusion of the program, Legends presented financial gift and food donation to the Osceola Council on Aging to

support their food pantry. Additionally, many class members signed up to become Bookmark Buddies, a mentoring program that helps third grade students improve their reading skills. We thank the Legends class for their generosity in supporting vital Osceola County programs and organizations.

Osceola, Community Vision presented Ed Moore with the Leadership Legacy Award. Ed envisioned a program that would infuse our community with capable, aware

leaders. This vision led to the launch of Leadership Osceola with the first class in 1989. Since the program’s inception 25 years ago, nearly 1,000 participants have

Leadership Osceola County is an unsurpassed leadership development program that began in 1989. Each year approximately 30 people who represent the diversity of the Osceola County community are inducted into the program. Over the course of the program, participants are introduced to our community through real life experiences. The class learns about the strengths and challenges of the community in which they live and work. In addition, participants receive skills-based knowledge with a focus on leadership development. The Leadership Osceola program kicks off in mid-February with a two-day team building retreat. Comprised of an excursion to a remote Central Florida location, the Friday and Saturday experience is designed to remove the class participants from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and allow their total immersion into the leadership experience. The retreat also serves to bring leadership participants together as a group to encourage active participation and camaraderie during the rest of the program. After successfully completing the challenges presented at the retreat, the remainder of the Leadership Osceola County program proceeds on a bi-weekly basis. These Wednesday meetings lead

the participants through a series of invigorating and insightful daylong experiences that cover a multitude of community oriented subjects and issues including social services, criminal justice, education, emergency services, government, environment, economic development, community planning/vision and arts & culture. No stone is left unturned in the pursuit of community orientation and leadership awareness. The program culminates in mid-June with an enjoyable graduation ceremony hosted by a Central Florida attraction and includes participants from the Leadership Legends program. Upon graduation, Leadership graduates are highly energized and ready to complete a community betterment project. Activities in the past include the development and creation of a senior housing project, a community painting and clean-up day and financial support for Leadership Osceola scholarships. The Leadership Osceola Class of 2014, in honor of the program’s 25th anniversary, coordinated a cruise raffle to support Community Vision. Additionally, a committee comprised of LOC alum, joined forces to plan a Silver Anniversary Graduation extravaganza with dinner, dancing, and silent auction. More than 225 Leadership Osceola and Legends graduates attended the celebration. The 25th anniversary efforts raised more than $20K for Community Vision programs and initiatives.
