education and spay/neuter programs. We are a privately
funded, non-profit, no-kill organization.

The League has been providing care to animals in
need since 1949. We are proud to be the Greater
Cincinnati region’s largest non-profit, no-kill shelter,
as well as its oldest.
The League serves people and animals in 21 counties
in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana through the
sheltering of homeless cats and dogs, as well as
through public education and our spay and neuter
programs.
The League typically shelters approximately 40 dogs
and 100 cats at any given time and provides
extensive physical, emotional, and medical care for
each animal. All animals receive regular veterinary
care, behavioral support and training, and
socialization by our staff and team of volunteers.
Our Mobile Adoption Unit
participated in over 30
community adoption events
and logged over 1,500 miles
Welcomed 345 dogs
Adopted 327 dogs
How We Did It:
We are able to serve so many animals through the
continued generosity of our donors and supporters.
Unrestricted donations of $754, 595 helped to offset more
than $885,000 in 2012 operating expenses. Planned gifts
and bequests comprised over two-thirds of the League’s
annual income.
Fundraising initiatives throughout the year generated
more than $66,000, while animal sponsorships of some of
the League’s neediest residents secured nearly $9,000 in
donations.
Nearly 1,000 active volunteers made
approximately 8,000 visits to the League,
providing much-needed socialization for
our animals, as well as participating in
mobile adoption events, providing
maintenance of our building and grounds,
and participating in our public education
programming.
In 2012, 4 cats and 1 dog were adopted through our
My Last Hope program. This program waives
adopter’s fees and covers the cost of vet care for the
life of any adopted animal in the program. It enables
us to find loving homes for pets with medical issues,
special needs, or those who have simply lived in the
shelter for too long.
The generous support of the program’s donors
provide for the continued existence of this very
special program.
The League leads the way in support of
community spay and neuter initiatives.
Our voucher program provides funds to
pet owners and feral caretakers to spay
and neuter animals at a reduced cost.
In 2012, generous financial support from
members and others passionate about pet
overpopulation resulted in over $11,800 in
vouchers redeemed, over 500 animals
fixed and over 200 transported through
out partnership with UCAN to be spayed
and neutered.

Get Involved:
Founded in 1949, the League for Animal Welfare is a leader in the field of animal welfare, in
the Greater Cincinnati area, nurturing and caring for thousands of homeless and abused
animals and placing them in loving adoptive homes. The League was founded by, and con-
tinues to exist because of, individuals who are passionate about giving companion animals
the care and quality of life they deserve…people just like you!
By supporting the League for Animal Welfare, you are:
• helping to create a vision for the future of a community where all dogs and cats have homes in which to thrive mentally and physically.
• making a significant impact on our local community through innovative programs like My Last Hope and the League’s Spay/Neuter assistance program
• supporting local collaboration with other shelters and local rescue groups and with local, low-cost spay neuter clinics.
The League for Animal Welfare is a registered 501(c)3 organization that is funded en-
tirely by private contributions. We have the proven infrastructure and experience to be a
trusted animal care facility. Our caring staff and dedicated volunteer corps believe in creat-
ing and maintaining the highest standards in all we do. This includes being wise stewards of
the funds entrusted to us by our donors.
