LEAP stands for Learning Experiences for Advanced Performance. It is an action learning approach that puts the learner at the centre of active knowledge discovery. LEAP is NOT presentation of passive information through Death by PowerPoint courses – a waste of time and money! Simply put, LEAP delivers fun, engaging and active learning that put the needs of the learner first, allowing learners to discover knowledge and solve problems. In LEAP trainers stop talking to PowerPoint slides and start using them as a frame to facilitate activities. Trainers become Learning Guides who curate learning events so that learning makes real impact back in the workplace. LEAP improves performance.
WHAT IS LEAP?
The corporate world spends billions of dollars a year in delivering PASSIVE information to smart working people. Your staff know most of what they see on the screen. What they NEED, is to USE information and new ideas to improve their skill. As Adult Learners, they prefer to learn by doing and rarely pay attention to lectures. Remember, POWERPOINT was NEVER created to be a training tool, it is a PRESENTATION TOOL and clip art and funky animations do little to change the passive, presentation. STOP WASTING TIME, AND MONEY with presentations. Active, fun learning experiences will make impact.
WHY DO I NEED LEAP?

Training or filling people with information,
does not work. Motivating learners to want to learn is the key
Designing the learning experience based on learner’s needs rather
than trainer’s needs has much more impact
Adult Learners want to discover why and how they can use new ideas and knowledge – let
them !
Adult Learners want to learn by doing, this also
ensures they practice skills so that they go
back to work

HOW DOES LEAP WORK? STEP 1
LEAP is based on experiential, action learning principles where learners are active. The learner in charge and at the centre of the training agenda and training method.
• LEAP is a learner centric approach. This means that content is NOT what Trainers want to say BUT what learners need to know to perform better.
• LEAP Performance Needs Analysis (PNA) identifies, not topics, BUT performance competencies; an analysis of WEAKNESS, GAPS, OPPORTUNTIES & PROBLEMS, that can improve institutional performance.
• Learners are in Charge so the methodology is ACTIVE, ENGAGING &FUN. This means no boring lecture - less than 20% lecture –and PowerPoint is just a frame for Storytelling and curating learning experiences.

HOW DOES LEAP WORK? STEP 2
POWERPOINT Presentations present information in a passive approach. LEAP Learning Events ALLOW and encourage Knowledge Discovery NOT Knowledge Delivery.
• Instead of delivering information, the Trainer in a LEAP session is a Learning Guide – allowing the learners to analyze, explore and find new knowledge without TELLING.
• LEAP content is innovative and creates experiences that allow learners take from knowledge what they can use to improve performance.
• The learner DECIDES what is useful and turns it into actionable knowledge to improve performance.

HOW DOES LEAP WORK? STEP 3
Learners who can think, analyze and create solutions are able to operate in changing and challenging environments. LEAP helps to improve thinking skills creating MENTAL AGILITY.
• Generic examples in passive training do little to build thinking skills unless learners get active and DO!
• In the LEAP classroom, learners think of problems and situations they face. They struggle, share experiences, and work through activities to solve problems. Each activity is focused on performance improvement.
• LEAP case studies are drawn from real workplace weaknesses and problems so there is RELEVANCE & IMPACT when they go back to work.

HOW DOES LEAP WORK? STEP 4
PRACTICE of new skills and behaviours is critical to learning impact. The LEAP Approach dedicates over 50% of time to hands on learning by doing and practice.
• Complex, real case studies and simulations are difficult to create and require strong PNA and instructional design, but these are core of LEAP learning events. It is worth it to design better.
• Each new skill or behaviour is practiced through cases, role plays, presentations, plans and games so that competencies are solidified and owned before the learner leaves the classroom.
• High quality Content is the key to active learning.

What does a LEAP Learning Experience look Like?
Practice and Own Skill Allow learners to practice new skills Take skills back to work with custom case
studies and reflection
Knowledge Discovery NOT Delivery Creates Thinking Skils Allow the learner to discover and solve
problems Struggle and solve problems ( cases) to
build Mental Agility
Learner Sets Intention to Learn
Identify real workplace problems and issues Learner sets own intention – ‘I need this, I want to learn”
Start with the Learner & Create Learner Centric Conversations Opening Activity: What does the learner
already know? Working Adults already know a lot – let
them speak first
Strong PNA – Performance Needs Analysis Really understand the business plan and
what will improve the business Identify clearly the competencies that you
need to build
Where did LEAP Come From?
§ LEAP has been developed by Shaheen Tejani, who has over 15 Years experience in Learning & Development. Shaheen needed an learning approach that was fun, engaging and that made learners think.
§ Over many years it has been tested in Technology, Banking, Entrepreneurship Programs for Women, Start up Companies, Microfinance, SME and Banking
§ LEAP has been used to develop over 100 Courses and tested by10,000 Learners with an average 95% Satisfaction Rate
§ Over 70% of learners Identify Skills and Behaviors they still use in the workplace (after 6 months).
§ LEAP makes change and in Today’s rapidly changing workplace, the ability to change and improve means performance
