We focus on mastering the Russian language in variouscommunication situations, starting from colloquialinteraction up to more proficient levels. We also offertraining in reading Russian texts and newspapers. Thelearning objectives, based on the Common EuropeanFramework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), aredetermined by the peculiarities of the Russian languageand cover Beginner, Elementary and Intermediate levels.

This is our own textbook for beginner and elementarystudents of Russian, covering levels A0, A1 and A2. It isthe result of several years of hard work by our academicteam and has been extensively trialled by our intensive

Standard Group Course

This course of 20 lessons per week is available all yearround, with a weekly intake of new students following a modular pattern of two-week units. Group coursesoperate from Monday to Friday with a minimum courselength of two weeks and no maximum.

The curriculum is built up like a spiral, where each newlevel of language acquisition starts with the revision ofpreviously studied grammar constructions, logicallyconnected with different speech patterns. This has twoadvantages: group newcomers are able to feel involvedin the learning process, while continuing studentsacquire new vocabulary based on previously acquiredgrammar material.

Groups are formed according to an assessment test,which is compulsory for all students. Standard groupcourses are available for A1-B2 levels all year. A veryimportant minimum requirement for all group courses ispassive knowledge of the Cyrillic alphabet.

Intensive Group Course

If you choose our Intensive Group Course, you will have20 morning lessons with students following theStandard Group Course and 5 additional lessons, taught on two afternoons. Intensive Group Courses areoffered all year in three different levels:

l Elementary (A1/A1+)

l Pre-intermediate (A2/A2+)

l Intermediate (B1/B1+)

Intensive Group Courses are also available at UpperIntermediate (B2/B2+) and Advanced (C1) levels whenthere is sufficient demand.

Combination Courses

These courses combine our standard Group or One-to-One courses with additional, more focussed study in avariety of business or cultural fields.

l Russian for Special Purposes (RSP)These attractively-priced, professional courses aretailor-made for staff working in the following fields:

• Hotel and tourism (hospitality)

• Airline staff (flight attendants)

• Alpine ski instructors.

Students will join a standard group course (20 lessonsper week) but receive an additional 5 One-to-Onelessons per week tailored to their particular profession.

l Language PlusLanguage Plus consists of 5 afternoon lessons, designedas mini-group modules, on Business Russian, Music orLiterature. These modules can be taken year-round butcan only be booked in addition to a Group or One-to-Onecourse programme.

Internships

Liden & Denz is one of the first organisations to offermeaningful study and work programmes in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Riga. Although our staff supervise thestudents on their assignments, the experience with thehost organisation is very authentic.

For legal reasons, most internships are unpaid andstudents should be aware that they will also need tocover accommodation and insurances costs.

To qualify for an internship, you will need to have atleast an A2 level of Russian on arrival. You will also needto study for a minimum of four weeks in a standardGroup Course or three weeks One-to-One in one of ourinstitutes, prior to the start of the work assignment. Theminimum age for internships is 18, however someorganisations set a higher minimum. Internships can lastfrom two weeks to half a year, depending on therequirements of our host organisations.


One-to-0ne Courses

Our One-to-One Courses are designed for students whorequire a very focussed area of study. You will be invitedto specify your field of interest when completing theonline booking form, so that we can pre-select material,establish a study plan and prepare specific vocabulary.

One-to-one courses are available in varying degrees ofintensity: 15, 20, 30 or 40 lessons per week. For 30lessons or more the student is taught by two teachers.

Individual courses can be booked throughout the year.The minimum course length is one week with eachcourse starting on a Monday and ending on a Friday,though weekend classes can be organised on request.Participants may also book additional 5 lesson modulesas a supplement to any One-to-One or Group Course.

telc Exam Preparation Module

Our special telc Exam Preparation Module gives studentsa clear understanding of what to expect in the telc examand is essential preparation to help them attain a pass.

l 5 lessons scheduled for the week of the exam

l Mini-groups with a maximum of 5 participants

l Exams take place on Fridays and must be booked at least 4 weeks in advance

Liden & Denz is the only telc Examination Centre forRussian in Russia and Latvia. telc offers four Russianlanguage certificates, covering levels A1-B2. The examhas both written and oral sections, and tests generallanguage competence, focusing on communicativeskills, rather than academic ones. The exams are closelyaligned with the CEFR, guaranteeing internationalcomparability of language competence, which is veryimportant to successful career planning.

SPECIALIST COURSES

Специальные курсыSpecialist courses are designed to provide students with more targeted areas of study. Our One-to-One courses allow you to create a tailor-made study plan with your teacher to perfectly match yourrequirements. Most of our specialist courses are taken as additions to a Group or One-to-One Courseand include: extra study towards ‘formal exams’, such as telc or TRKI; Russian for workers in thetravel industry; and access to work experience with Russian host companies.

l HomestayHomestay, as the name suggests, is when you stay witha Russian-speaking family, in their home. Often this willbe with a traditional family with children, however, wealso have couples and single hosts.

The benefit of Homestay is that you can practice yournew found language skills, while experiencing everydayRussian or Latvian life. Hosts are chosen because theyare very sociable, so will take time to talk to you, aswell as being patient, understanding and caring. Theyare also there to help with any problem that may ariseduring your Russian language stay.

We offer single rooms on a bed & breakfast or halfboard (breakfast and dinner) basis. If you are travellingwith a family member or friend, we will do our best toprovide you with a double room on request.

Hosts are personally known to the responsible staffmember at the school and homes are regularlyinspected to ensure high standards. Students are alsogiven the chance to provide feedback through both entryand exit questionnaires.

l Shared FlatsIf you want to enjoy a true student experience, thiscould be the option for you. Our flats have 3 or 4 singlebedrooms, a shared bathroom and a kitchen with awashing machine. Bed linen is provided and all the flatshave free WiFi. This option is no more expensive thanHomestay, however meals are not provided.

Riga, Latvia’s capital and the largest city in the BalticStates, has architecture which spans the centuries,most notably a medieval centre and one of the world’sfinest collections of Art Nouveau buildings. You will getto know the historical centre well during your time here,with tours to the Central Market, and rides around thecity on the renovated tram. There are also excursions tothe seaside suburb of Jurmala. On Fridays you can relaxwith your teachers as you enjoy a traditional Russian teaparty.
