LEARNING GROWING and ACHIEVEING TOGETHER! the last day of Term 3 2021 is here!

thank you everyone! THANK YOU

To our fabulous staff who have worked tirelessly over the term to support and reinforce the importance of stepping up and taking responsibility for our achievements and for our growth.

THANK YOU To our wonderful community – you have individually and collectively done your best every single day

during LOCKDOWN 6 and Remote Learning. Some days have been better than others and it’s OK to say that.

New routines have had to be made and followed. As adults we have never been asked to call on our resilience, tenacity, and calm this way.

WELL DONE! You’ve done a super job!

To our students – it’s very tricky being the best version of ourselves when times are challenging and

there’s lots of things we really want to do, and we can’t. You’ve been your best selves as much as you could be.

Great job! Congratulations team – we’ve used our positive mindsets, our getting along skills

and we’ve demonstrated our STARR values in action. Now it’s time to be grateful for everyone who has helped us along the way. It’s also time to stop and

say ’well done me!’

Please remember to go back and check the Feel Good News and COMPASS notifications – there are some fabulous ideas to think about, some challenges to take on, some skills to develop and some

resources to use! We look forward to hearing about your term holiday in the next edition of the FGN – don’t forget to

share your photos ☺

Spring and term breaks mean children are able to re discover toys and games, build cubbies, enjoy some down time. There does come a time though when everything needs to be packed up and put

away so……… MAYBE

• store toys/games/etc so they are easy to get out and put away

• wait for natural breaks in play before getting children to tidy up

• let your child know when it is nearly time to tidy up

• tell your child what you want them to do at tidy up time

• help your child get started if necessary

• make tidying up fun

• praise your child for tidying up

• if your child refuses to tidy up, gently guide them

• use quiet time-out for problem behavior

• return your child to tidy up their mess

• use a logical consequence to a no tidy up attitude

Thank you all for your feedback in the recent FPS surveys – the recurring theme is that of our absolute focus on student learning, remaining positive, forgiving ourselves when we can’t quite

reach our goals and on being determined to always learn grow and achieve together HAVE A SAFE TERM HOLIDAY EVERYONE

STAY SAFE BE WELL

Reading: In Prep, we have continued to learn about our new reading strategies. We have been focusing on Skippy Frog and Chunky Monkey. Skippy Frog helps us to skip the word, hop back and read again. Chunky Monkey reminds us to chunk words into parts you know.

In Grade 1 and 2, we are focusing on Rereading Rabbit and Word Part Walrus. Rereading Rabbit reminds us to practise reading good fit books again and again. Word Part Walrus reminds us to use word parts to determine the meaning of the words.

Writing: The Preps have continued to focus on the sounds - ea sound, as in the words play tea or leaf as well as the y sound, as in fry and dry.

News The Preps have also continued to learn about procedural writing. Procedural writing tells how to do something. We have been writing about short and simple procedures like, ‘How to make pancakes’ or ‘How to wash your hands.’

The Grade 1 and 2s, have also been continuing procedural writing and writing procedures like, ‘How to make a Jam sandwich’ or ‘How to make pancakes.’ This week we are focusing on Show don’t tell! When we create a procedure, we only want to keep the most interesting and important parts in our final copy. Mathematics: In Prep, we have been focusing on Money and concentrating on recognising, describing, ordering and counting Australian coins and notes according to their value. The Preps have also been focusing on reviewing and learning the Days of the Week. The Preps have been learning about patterns. Patterns are a group of objects, in a particular order, that repeats. In addition to this we have been focusing on length for example short and long, and comparing the length of different objects.

The Grade 1 and 2s have been reviewing division and sharing items into equal groups. We use division when we need to find out how we can share a group into equal or fair parts. We have also been focusing on months of the year and seasons. Grade 1/2 have also been focusing on learning about fractions. A fraction represents, or shows, part of a whole. We can find a fraction of a number, object or group. You can only find a fraction of something when it is broken into equal parts.

News Senior News

Reading: In Reading, our Seniors have been working on comparing and contrasting within the texts that they are reading. They have been exploring the differences and similarities between topics, animals, themes, moments in time and making comparisons between themselves and the characters in their texts. Our Seniors have also been working on summarising the texts that they have read by focusing on sequencing the main events. The Grade 3/4 students practised their summaries using Tick Tack Notes, the Author’s Key Points and by writing Book Blurbs. The Grade 5/6 students used the Story Pyramid to ensure that they included all the important aspects of the story before taking on the challenge of writing a 25-Word Summary.

News Writing: In Writing, our Grade 3/4s have been working on including additional information to their procedural texts by using Show, Don’t Tell strategy and describing the different senses that their audience would be using while following their steps. The 3/4 students then transferred their Show, Don’t Tell skills to create narrative texts and by participating in Rocket Writing where they only had 5 minutes to write a paragraph describing the given topics. They also had great fun creating their own similes and drawing illustrations to support their writing. The 5/6 students practised using the Show, Don’t Tell strategy by writing procedural texts that describe how their audience can demonstrate gratitude, kindness, and self-care. When developing their narrative texts, the Grade 5/6s explored the different points of view that an author can use, particularly focussing on the first and third person but with a challenge where use words such as ‘the’, ‘and’, ‘then’ or ‘so’ couldn’t be used.

News Maths: In Maths, our 3/4 students have been working on strategies that they can use for addition, subtraction and multiplication including the Circle To 10, Split Strategy, Box Strategy and Doubling and Halving. The Grade 3/4s have also been looking at graphing to explore how effective different graphs are at communicating data and how they could be improved. They then applied the information that they had developed to their own graphs using data they collected through throwing paper balls into a bin from various distances. The Grade 5/6 students have been exploring how algebra uses letters to represent unknown values within equations. They have then been applying their knowledge of balanced equations to find the value of an unknown number. The 5/6s have also been looking at how to find the area of various shapes including triangles and parallelograms. They also explored the importance of different elements used when graphs are created, such as titles, labels, scales and equal spacing.
