My contention is that creativity now is as important in education as literacy, and we should treat it with the same status.

Mood and Mime

The old proverb holds true ‘Actions speak louder than words’. Mood and Mime is one such event that separates a JBite from the rest of the world. It is one of the most awaited activities at JB. This event is a student-driven effort that enables each participant to dig deep into their creative bowels and display their theatrical prowess. On the 10th of April, the students of Stds. IX and X battled it out for the coveted award. Once again this year the bar was raised as our girls came up with creative and memorable productions that were a source of deep pride for the school.

As always , our students rose to the occasion, came up with lucid and well thought out arguments that engaged the audience as well as the competitors.

The topics were: In the digital age, teacher will be redundant; Schools should initiate punitive action against cyber bullying that occurs outside school; Lives of public figures should not be private.

Music Festival

On the 9th of July, an inter house music festival ‘Vibrato’ was held for the students of Stds V to X. Students performed various instrumental, vocal (duet) and Acapella on a variety of instruments such as cello, flute and piano. The event was entertaining as well as enchanting.

Share our similarities, celebrate our differences

Yoga Day

‘International Yoga Day’ was celebrated on the 21st of June. The atmosphere was charged with a sense of serenity and calmness as the yoga students of Std X led the secondary school through a series of asanas. This was followed by a school assembly wherein ex-students as well as students of Std X gave personal testimonies on the significance and benefits of practicing yoga.

For the primary school, Ms. S. Pardiwalla conducted an innovative yoga session in the school auditorium by pairing students of Std I and Std III in one session and students of Std II and IV in another. The children were also shown a short film on the transformation yoga bought about in the lives of some children. Simple asanas were then taught and demonstrated.

Grandparents Day

Students of Std I, sang, enacted a skit in Hindi, performed a choral recitation and danced joyously to thank their grandparents for their guidance and blessings. The grandparents too came forth to sing, dance and share anecdotes with the audience and their grandchildren.

World Environment Day

This year the onus to play host was entrusted to our own country India. The theme very aptly adopted was “Beat Plastic Pollution, ban single use of plastic.” An activity involving the recycling of old t-shirts by transforming them into cloth bags which could be used for shopping was taken up by the students of Std III. These bags were proudly displayed by our creative girls on Open Day, much to the delight of their parents.

Independence Day

The students of Std II had fun colouring their own dupattas with the Indian flag colours and draping as a pre - Independence Day Celebration. Our HKG students assembled hairbands with tri– colour flowers and ate tri–coloured idlis for snacks!

Strike a Pose

Students of Std II happily struck a pose and walked an imaginary ramp in beautifully draped sarees to dramatise the story, ‘Granny’s Saree’.

Insect Detectives

Perfect weather, a sylvan setting and the infinite enthusiasm of Std III children, contributed towards a very satisfactory creepy crawly trail. Not only did the young insect detectives find insects like the wood louse, beetles, a blue bottle fly, cocoon of the slug moth, a pair of Palm – fly butterflies chasing each other and the Striped Tiger butterfly, but also creepy crawlies like the Daddy–long–legs spider, millipedes, centipedes, slugs, snails – plenty of monsoon creatures. It was an educative trip packed with fun!

Ayaksha put together a team consisting of a dentist, an ENT specialist, a Dermatologist, an Opthalmologist and a General Practitioner.
