LEGOS® IN ACTION: STOP MOTION ANIMATORS

Create your own animated short film using Legos and other action figures based on your favorite movie! You will explore scripting, teamwork, photography, backdrops, and simple film editing in the creation of your finished film. Bring your own Legos and action figures or use some of ours. Your film will be saved to a password protected website which you can share with friends and family. Instructor: Bryley Deneen

ROYAL MONSTER RUMBLE

What’s more fun than watching giant monsters on TV and movies fighting over the fate of planet earth? Drawing them! 10-12 CONT’DDRAWING FANTASTIC BEASTS

Fantastic beasts will come to life in this adventurous class. In the second week, you will visit the Public Museum of Grand Rapids to discover preserved bones and animals on display. After sketching some of the things you see, go back to the studio and dive into your own imaginative worlds, emerging with some fully rendered drawings. Instructor: Jennifer Jones



DRAGON MANIA

How many kinds of dragons can you think of? How many dragons can you name? For millennia, dragons were featured in the art and mythologies of cultures from around the world. Step-by-step tutorials are provided for many styles of dragons — cartoon, baby, European, Chinese, cute, fierce, active, and more. You will learn guides for drawing dragon parts — such as the head, wings, legs, or talons — so you can create your own dragons. Instructor: Jennifer Jones

Work in pairs or teams and explore coding while playing and designing worlds in your own virtual universe. You’ll learn game design concepts, coding, and more while having fun designing your own mobile game app. Your game can be shared later with friends and family on a password protected website. You’ll be guided in your portfolio creation experience through a curated offering of art and design skill-building projects, like drawing (sketching, figure drawing, charcoal drawing), sketching (concept ideation), painting, printmaking, jewelry making, architecture/interior design (sketching, learning about floor plans and materials), anime drawing and story writing, character drawing/illustration, furniture making (template making), and photography. Three of these experiences will be offered in the 10 week session. The final session will offer you the opportunity to “hang your own art show” and display works you’ve created throughout the course. You’ll also have the opportunity review your current work and set goals for your future. Instructors: Full-time KCAD program faculty

13-18NEW! PREPARATORY MURAL DESIGN

Murals, typically found on walls and ceilings, date back to the Upper Paleolithic era with cave paintings and can be found through out all other eras of human history. These murals were used as a way to tell stories or display political, social, and religious values. No matter their intent, murals impact their surrounding community. In this class you will have the opportunity to design a “mural” on large paper and be taught all the techniques for transferring the imagery you design later to a wall or permanent surface. Best practices for obtaining a mural site will also be discussed. Instructor: Bryley Deneen



GRAPHIC DESIGN DAY CAMP

Explore making graphic images, basic typography, and the integration of the two through a series of fun and fast-paced digital assignments and exercises. Projects will address form, composition, hierarchy, and creativity. Instructor: Bryley Deneen

Drop Off and Pick Up of Youth

All youth must be dropped off at the 17 Pearl St. NW, Woodbridge N. Ferris Building and accompanied into the building by an adult. Parents are required to identify themselves to the instructor or a staff member and to sign out all youth ages 12 and younger when they return to pick them up.
