LEARNING TO EMBRACE DIFFERENT
By: Wesley Wilkinson
ESSENTIAL QUESTION
How are transgender individuals throughout their communities perceived by others and how do they personally perceive themselves while they are unquestionably disapproved by multiple groups of people?
WHAT IS A TRANSGENDER INDIVIDUAL?
A transgender individual has a gender identity which is inconsistent with the assigned gender. Meaning, for example, someone may look like a man physically, but they feel and prefer to be female or vice versa.
WHAT DO TRANSGENDER INDIVIDUALS GO THROUGH? A transgender individual will go through multiple forms
of HRT and surgeries if they chose to follow that path They will be disapproved often by friends, family, and
always aspects concerning the media and society we live in
IS BEING TRANSGENDER A MENTAL ILLNESS?
No, but this remains a stereotype about transgender people.
Transgender identity is not a mental illness that can be cured with treatment
Transgender people experience a persistent and authentic difference between our assigned sex and understanding of our own gender
ORIENTATION VS. IDENTITY
Sexual orientation is who one goes to bed with
Sexual identity is what one goes to bed as
Neither of the two are connected in any way; both are their own unique category under the topic of gender
RELIGION VS. TRANSGENDER
Religion votes no God's intent is heterosexuality, with
definite boundaries between men and women in both appearance and behavior (Gen 1:26)
SCIENCE VS. TRANSGENDER
In America we are not as physically equipped to meet the needs of transgender individuals unlike Thailand and Ireland
Science is about trying new things and experimenting so the scientific community is not opposed to the idea
SOCIETY VS. TRANSGENDER
Society tells us that those who are different from the “in-crowd” are not acceptable
It’s close minded to shallow topics that our eyes can not visibly see past
LET’S EDUCATE OUR SOCIETY
It’s important that we are taught to believe whatever we want to believe in and not what society tells us to believe
DO NOT let other influence your own opinions, find things out for yourself
LET’S MEET GEENA ROCERO
Geena Rocero is a fashion model who was born in the Phillipines
She is a MTF Classified her
gender identity at the age of five
JUST BECAUSE WE CAN SHOULD WE?
