In addition to our exceptional annual events, we are introducing two new events this year. We are offering the Advanced Pediatric Retina (APR) course in March and a glaucoma fellows program that will be held in conjunction with the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) in November.

This inaugural course, APR is designed for the pediatric ophthalmologist and pediatric retinal specialists with interest in diseases such as retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), ROP like diseases, persistent fetal vasculature, retinal dystrophies, pediatric trauma and other retinal diseases. The course will showcase utilization of advanced ophthalmic imaging to improve patient outcomes, pharmacologic treatment strategies and the cutting edge retinal surgery.

Controversies in Cataracts and Cornea Conference

The annual Controversies in Cornea and Cataract Surgery Conference is designed to offer the newest clinical information on many topics in the field of anterior segment ophthalmology. Utilizing the clinical and research expertise of the Duke Eye Center faculty, the course will cover topics in medical and surgical cornea as well as cataract evaluation and management. Throughout the course we aim to focus on many of the unanswered questions in anterior segment ophthalmology including several new and controversial issues facing our field.

This inaugural program is intended to develop trainees with a fundamental understanding of glaucoma diagnosis and management and to promote intellectual curiosity. The course is designed to have integrated surgical wet-labs, and fellow directed didactic discussions.

The Fellows Advanced Vitreous Surgery (fAVS) educational event is for all North American vitreoretinal surgical, medical retina, uveitis, and some international fellows.
