Recreating Incandescent PerformanceCirrus Logic’s portfolio of LED driver ICs target the incandescent lamp replacement market. The digital intelligence of Cirrus Logic’s LED drivers consistently outperforms competing LED drivers in dimmer compatibility while offering a total bill‑of‑material cost equal to competing solutions.

Cirrus Logic’s patented dimmer‑compatibility technology identifies the type of dimmer in use and applies the appropriate operating mode. This adaptive digital technology consistently provides full functionality on even the most challenging leading‑edge, trailing‑edge and smart digital dimmers.

Proven Performance: Zero–100% Dimming Range, Flicker-Free Operation, Smooth, Monotonic DimmingTo test performance, Cirrus Logic acquired more than 400 dimmers consisting of some of the most popular models on the market today and representing much of the global installed base. Cirrus Logic developed a dimmer compatibility test methodology that scores LED bulbs on multiple factors including:

• Flicker-Free Operation

• bulb does not flicker at any point along the full dimming range

• Smooth Monotonic Dimming

• bulb dims steadily without sudden “jumps” or drops in light level

• Full Dimming Range Operation

• bulb dims effectively from maximum to nearly zero light output

Cirrus Logic LED drivers offer smooth, flicker‑free dimming across a wide variety of dimmers and also consistently outperform competing LED drivers in dimming range. Cirrus Logic’s ICs dim to nearly zero light output, which closely matches the dimming performance of incandescent light bulbs. Competing LED drivers have not demonstrated this level of deep dimming.

CS1615/16/15A/16A Single-Stage LED Driver

The CS1615/16/15A/16A are single‑stage LED drivers that provides industry‑leading dimmer compatibility, enabling LED lamps to match the dimming experience of incandescent lamps. Cirrus Logic’s proprietary digital intelligence allows the CS1615/16/15A/16A to monitor and adapt to the type of dimmer in use and select the appropriate operating mode. This adaptive digital signal processing technology, which is not possible with competitive analog drivers, ensures a smooth flicker‑free dimming performance across a zero to 100% dimming range. The CS1615/16/15A/16A are configurable for isolated and non‑isolated topologies and have a BOM cost equal to competitive single‑stage solutions. In addition to A‑type, PAR, and BR LED bulbs, the CS1615/16/15A/16A are suitable for space‑constrained GU10 bulbs. The CS1615A/16A are BOM cost‑reduced versions of the CS1615/16 that target applications requiring less than 12 W of output power. For applications requiring less than 25 W of output power, customers should use the CS1615/16.

CS1680 MR16 LED Driver

The CS1680 is a two‑stage, cascade boost‑buck LED driver capable of solving the complex compatibility challenges across the broad array of dimmer and transformer combinations used in 12‑volt MR16 lighting systems. Addressing the need for halogen lamp replacements, the CS1680 uses patented digital control technology to provide best-in-class compatibility in both single-lamp and multi-lamp systems that are typically coupled with either electronic or magnetic transformers. The CS1680 addresses the growing market for LED‑based MR16 lamps, which are approximately 80 percent more efficient than halogen bulbs. Unfortunately, the current offering of LED drivers do not offer single‑channel compatibility or provide full‑light output for MR16 lamps when utilized with most combinations of dimmers and transformers. For single‑lamp, or up to six lamps in a system, the CS1680 provides unparalleled flicker‑free performance down to five percent output current with leading‑edge and trailing‑edge dimmers.

• Best-in-class transformer compatibility• Magnetic, electronic

• Best-in-class dimmer compatibility• Operates across all dimmer and

transformer combinations• Flicker‑free smooth dimming• 5%‑100% dimming range

• One SKU for MR16 applications in both 120VAC and 230VAC markets

• Up to 80% efficiency• Zero output ripple, minimizes rectified

line voltage• Active power factor correction to enable

PF >0.9 on magnetic transformers• Soft start

• On-chip protection for output short-circuit, open‑circuit, over‑current and over-temperature

• 16 TSSOP package
