A design masterstrokeIts design and materials make the luminaire appear to float

AERO II writes a new chapter in the history of lighting technology. Being a hybrid model, it was the first luminaire to interactively com-bine LED and fluorescent lamp. The 100% LED version goes even further by exploiting the LED‘s potential not only for direct lighting, but also for indirect lighting. In terms of design and lighting technol-ogy, the new AERO II is based on the classic AERO luminaire by Ettore Sottsass. Its high-quality waveguide technology with micro-pyramidal optic set new standards in lighting quality. By integrating LEDs in a consistent design concept, efficiency and quality have now been combined at the highest level.

Well-equipped offices are characterised by high-quality lighting. If the workstations are flexible and electronic media are used, the re-quirements placed on the luminaires are even higher. Innovative systems such as AERO II – installed either as individual luminaires or in continuous rows – offer a well-balanced solution especially suited for screen-based work. Thanks to the combination of wave-guide technology and micro-pyramidal optic, desk positions no longer depend on the luminaires installed. Not only does the lumi-naire have a lightweight appearance, it is also easy to use.

HighPower white-light LEDs An LED line fitted with LEDs at regular intervals forms the basis of the brilliant light of AERO II LED. The LEDs’ colour temperature can be either 3000 K (warm white) or 4000 K (intermediate white). Its high energy effi-ciency and long service life of 50,000 hours are proof of AERO II LED‘s economic sustainability.

T16 fluorescent lamp As regards AERO II Hybrid and AERO II T16, the high luminous flux pack-ages provided by the T16 fluorescent lamp are the best prerequisites for uniform ambient lighting. The high luminance levels are indirectly reflected from the ceiling, thus creating a pleasant room atmosphere.

Waveguide technology Waveguide luminaires have been designed especially for use in modern offices, where flexible workstations comprising a wealth of electronic me-dia place high requirements on the lighting system. Innovative systems such as AERO II provide the perfect solution by adding light from hidden sources. Thus, both upright and steeply inclined displays remain free from annoying reflections – no matter where the luminaire is positioned.

Micro-pyramidal optic (MPO+)

Precision-ground sharp-edged microprisms produce brilliant light. In combination with waveguide technology, MPO+ forms a seamless optical system, which both ensures glare control appropriate to the relevant ap-plication at flat angles and reduces luminance at steep angles, thus re-ducing glare on steeply inclined displays. Another benefit of high-preci-sion direction of light is the optical system‘s high efficiency.

Operation and control

HighPower LED

The direct and indirect light components of the AERO II LED and Hybrid luminaire are provided with a separate control gear and can thus be con-trolled independently of each other. Combined with an intelligent lighting management system, the DALI-dimmable electronic ballasts can produce any combination of direct and indirect lighting.

For AERO II LED, highly efficient HighPower LEDs are used for direct and indirect lighting. Light source, reflector and optics are arranged in such a way that the light emitted from the luminaire is not only as efficient but al-so as uniform as possible. Depending on the length of the luminaire, the installed load is between 96 W and 120 W.

AERO II T16

AERO II Hybrid combines the benefits of T16 and LED in one lumi-naire. It is highly efficient and allows individual lighting scenes. LEDs are responsible for active lighting using the direct light com-ponent, while T16 fluorescent lamps with high luminous flux pack-ages provide indirect ambient lighting. Thanks to the combination of T16 and LED, very calm and balanced light is produced that up-grades any workstation.

AERO II LED is one of the first 100% LED luminaires using indirect and direct light components, setting a milestone in general office lighting. Thanks to the possibility of controlling the indirect and di-rect light components separately, just one luminaire is enough to create a variety of lighting scenes. Thus, AERO II LED can provide the appropriate lighting ambience for every activity. This ambience is improved even further when lighting solutions are involved that exploit the emotional and biological qualities of light using dynamic changes of daylight.

Even as a T16-only version AERO II cannot fail to impress due to its extremely flat design. Only 28 mm are visible both at the front and on the sides. The luminaire‘s lightweight design has been reduced to two slim lines and the seamless MPO+ optic. Both direct and in-direct light is produced by T16 fluorescent lamps. Thanks to high-precision direction of light, this model is highly efficient as well.

AERO IIPerformance comparison

In AERO II Hybrid, too, the direct and indirect light components can be separately controlled. This combined luminaire shows its strengths mainly when it comes to illuminating high-ceilinged con-ference rooms and offices. Due to the combination of powerful LED direct light and high-output T16 lamps for indirect light, the required illuminance levels are also achieved in rooms with high ceilings.

The focus of the AERO II LED luminaire is on the direct light compo-nent. Half of the light quantity available is directed downwards onto the task area, with perfect glare control, thus ensuring high lighting efficiency. Thanks to the separate control of direct and indirect light, a variety of lighting scenes can be created in a room. The light is adjusted to the working and ambient situation as required. The low installed load and low number of luminaires required offer manifold design options for additional accent and ambient lighting.

The AERO II T16 luminaire gives offices or conference rooms a bright and pleasant atmosphere that can be varied using dimmable lighting scenes. Since 85% of its light is distributed in the room indi-rectly, via the ceiling, the key benefit of the T16 version is the highly uniform and thus pleasant general lighting it produces.

In line with sophisticated architecture Mounted next to each other, AERO II pendant luminaires form a delicate continuous row system. The extremely calm ceiling appearance allows greater crea-tive freedom for architects and designers. All that is needed is one electric feed per continuous row; this is why only half of the sus-pension points are required in comparison with installation as indi-vidual luminaires.
