LEDsEE AWARDS EFFICIENT LIGHTING 2014
ENERGY EFFICIENCY, ELIMINATION OF LIGHT CONTAMINATION AND NEW TECHNOLOGIES
REMOTE MANAGEMENT IN OLD N-V ROAD
BADAJOZ CITY COUNCIL
ACTION DESCRIPTION - PREVIOUS SITUATION
N-V: It was the main route between Madrid and Lisbon. Currently, it has been replaced by A5-E90, it has reduced its level of circulation and it has increased its residential component becoming in an avenue of the city.
Badajoz City Council: Awareness of the importance of LED lighting. Upgrade and renovation, Infrastructure, Villages, Lighting and Energy efficiency
Department. Energy efficiency Plan + renovation quality lighting: New solutions focused on
LED -> Challenge: Products with suitable features to cover residential and street necessities.
New regulations 2009: Energy efficiency in street lightings -> New obligations: energy efficiency and control system.
Remote management: The most complete system for controling the installations.
Previous situation: Low lighting levels and uniformity problems.
ACTION DESCRIPTION
Upgrading street lighting in N-V (part of the road which goes through Badajoz).
2 Technologies: LED (adjustable, 99-142 W) instead of High pressure sodium (400 and 250 W). Remote management system: Control point by point in real time.
Installed power reduction, higher uniformity, excellent energy consumption reduction, maintenance costs reduction.
ACTION DESCRIPTION
StarSense system: Light level reduction in low traffic hours -> Energy and economic savings, CO2 emissions reduction, connection to municipal optical fiber.
Reparations in 5 street lighting electric switchboards.
Costs: BUDGET: 331.614,88 € 21% VAT: 69.639,21 € TOTAL: 401.254,00 €
PROJECT’S RESULTS
SpeedStar+StarSense (remote management system): Important reduction of energy consumption and environmental impact.
Reduction of energy consumption: 293,2 MWh/year -> Saving: 80%.
Reduction of CO2 emissions: 117,31 ton/year.
Useful life: 100.000 h -> 20 years.
Change in color temperature: 2000ºK (High pressure sodium) -> 4000ºK (SpeedStar).
White light, suitable color rendering, more visual comfort, more uniformity, elimination of lighting contamination.
INNOVATION DEGREE AND TECHNOLOGICAL SOLUTIONS ADOPTED
Philips Speed Star model lights (LED technology).
Street lighting electric switchboards connected to the municipal optical fiber net for management of the system.
Control system implemented by a remote management of regulation point by point.
INNOVATION DEGREE AND TECHNOLOGICAL SOLUTIONS ADOPTED
Programming operation: Each light point: Optimal power to get the necessary
light intensity. Start: Each light point 100% on. One hour after: Each light point 80% on. 00.00 h: Each light point 60% on (except on pedestrian
crossings and crossings: 80%). 01.00 h: Each light point 50% on (except on pedestrian
crossings and crossings: 80%). One hour before of lighting off: Each light point 100% on.
