HOW MANY SOLAR PANELS DO I NEED FOR AN ELECTRIC SOLAR POWER SYSTEM?The size of the PV system is dependent on your energy usage, available space, and overall budget.

DO I NEED SPECIAL INSURANCE?We recommend you consult your current insurance company to find out how they handle solar systems. Most policies simply cover the solar like any other part of the home without any specific changes. We do suggest that you increase the overall insured value of your home to include your new investment in solar.

HOW MUCH WILL I SAVE WITH A HOME ELECTRIC SOLAR POWER SYSTEM?This depends on the size of the system. Each kilowatt of solar (4 panels typically) will generate 110 kWh/month on average. If you use 1000 kWh per month (check your bill), you would need approximately a 9kW system (36 panels) to generate the majority of your annual electric usage (however this is not always the “best” size).

HOW MUCH MAINTENANCE DO SOLAR PANELS REQUIRE?Solar photovoltaic panels require little maintenance. It is important to place panels where they’ll remain clear of shade and debris.

WILL MY HOA LET ME INSTALL SOLAR?Texas Legislature passed a law in June 2011 stating that a home owners’ association may not enforce a provision in an instrument that prohibits/restricts a property owner from installing a solar energy device.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO INSTALL A SOLAR POWER SYSTEM IN MY HOME?Planning, configuring and doing any custom ordering for your solar energy system can take several weeks. However, the installation process itself can typically be completed in only a few days.

HOW BIG IS EACH PANEL?Every manufacturer varies slightly in panel size, but a typical 60-cell solar panel is approximately 3.5’ x 5.5’ and weighs around 30-40 pounds.

DO I NEED BATTERIES?Whether or not to install a battery backup depends on your goals for the solar system. Battery backups add cost and can lower your systems efficiency; however there are benefits too. Discuss the pros and cons of battery backup with a Texas Solar Outfitters professional.
