What our clients say

Chair & Chief Executive’s ReviewWe would like to welcome you to this year’s annual report. As you will see we have been busy finding out from our service users what they think about the type of support we offer, what other things they feel would enhance their ability to remain independent and about being more involved in the work that we do.

We continue to work in the environment of decreasing funding and increasing demands. The pressures of welfare reforms and the economic malaise impact on the most vulnerable people in our society. Our support, as you will note from the comments in this report, show that LIHH’s services continue

to help people retain the strength to meet the challenges presented to them and indeed find a way of overcoming them so that they feel that they can achieve their aspirations. We remain very proud of the work of our staff and volunteers in maintaining this.

We were delighted to be part of the Positive Pathway’s consortium to win the mental health recovery focussed housing support contract from April 2013. We are extremely grateful to the Department of Foreign Affairs in Ireland for their continued Emigrant Support Programme funding, alongside our other funders, sponsors and generous donators.

This next year LIHH look forward to developing further beneficial partnerships, having a greater focus on individual care and support for our service users and meeting the demands from the changing policy and financial requirements to ensure people in the communities we serve can continue to make the real differences in their lives that you see in this report.

One thing that we hope this report does is inspire you to get involved with us whether as a volunteer in all its guises, as a commissioner looking for a solution to a current service gap or as a service user who may feel that our service is the type of support you are seeking. We are more than happy to help!

Who are we?Our primary purpose is to enable people to live as independent a life a possible. We work with you on lifestyle and health issues to help you make positive changes to improve your health and wellbeing.

We need volunteers! We’re recruiting new volunteers (befrienders) to visit people who are lonely and isolated. We’re also looking for people to help out in the kitchen and with service at our luncheon groups. Can you help?

Housing SupportWe provide mental health housing support through the Positive Pathways service. We support people with mental health problems in Leeds, working on housing, employment and other needs to help recovery. For more information on the referral process please visit our website.

“Triple A, that’s what you are. My whole world collapsed in. I went from living the life of Reilly to living in a tip and you helped me pick up my boot straps and turn things around!” Tom

How can we help?We provide a range of practical and emotional support services such as:

l One to one home visits.

l Luncheon groups and social activities.

l Helping build a wider social network.

l Days out.

l Befriending.

l Support accessing health services.

l Attending appointments (eg GP).

l Budget planning and help managing bills.
