Recruitment of Apprentices
Challenges – How Apprentices are viewed
• Young People
• Difficult to manage
• ‘Our’ work environment is too complex
• ‘Our’ work environment is too busy
• ‘I don’t have time to spend training and supervising’
• ‘I don’t want them – I haven’t interviewed them’
“Recognising administration as a profession has been long overdue.
The managers that have been working with our apprentices have commented
how quick they are to pick things up, are not afraid of highlighting to us where
our systems and processes are wasteful and where patients are not getting the
best service we have the ability to provide.
This programme is the way forward for our future teams.”

“The Apprentice Clinical Support Worker’s work ethic, professionalism
and personal bearing are a credit to her, and belie her relative lack of
experience in this environment.
She works at a sustained level that I would expect of someone with far
more experience, she is a shining example to others within the
department and is a highly respected and likeable team member”
Key findings from the report include:
86.5 per cent of 16-24 year olds said that their experience of working in the
NHS has been positive
more than 90 per cent received support and encouragement to develop skills
from managers and colleagues
66.9 per cent could see themselves working for the NHS in 10 years’ time.
