Lee's Chapel United Methodist Church THE MESSENGER Welcome to the first bi-monthly issue of The Messenger, and my first issue as editor. This issue is a little later than it probably should be, but I was busy gathering articles that will take us through the end of 2016. Fall is a busy time at Lee's Chapel and you will see lots of photos in this issue of times we have been together in worship and fellowship. It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O Most High...Psalm 92:1 Golden Treasures October—finally fall has arrived with cooler weather, beautiful leaves, and crisp mornings, but still a boat ride is possible at Lake Townsend. Pastor Joseph spoke to us about new plans for our retirees in combination with other churches in the area. Linda Brandon attended a meeting to learn more about this. November 1 will be our annual Thanksgiving luncheon with Bass Chapel UMC. Our meal will be catered by Karonda’s, entertainment will be music with June Costello and Jessica Ham, and each guest will receive a gift favor. December 6 th, we will gather at a restaurant to be announced. Later in the month we are invited to Bass Chapel for a Christmas party. In the past, we enjoyed delicious meals, singing by the men’s chorus, and received a gift that put smiles on our faces. Golden Treasures in Review Golden Treasures was started by Eloise Rudd with the help of Lera Clymer and Anne Smith. We have taken several trips out of town. We have various mission efforts such as Bingo at St. Gales, soup labels, cards for St. Jude’s, Coke product bottle tops to help veterans, clothing and school supplies for Brightwood. Some meetings bring us special information or entertainers. Everyone is welcome to join us any month that you can. We meet the first Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. Information is in the newsletter and the Sunday bulletin. Call Judy Henline (336) 520-1817 or Linda Gordon (336) 621-1054 for information. Disaster Relief While we are enjoying the beautiful Fall we continue to remember our Eastern neighbors who have suffered so much loss and sorrow in the flooding caused by Hurricane Matthew. UMCOR is responding to the disaster and you can too. You can go to UMCOR.com, click on the red DONATE button or make a check payable to: Advance GCFA with Advance # 901670 written on the memo line.
