The news report of famous anchor GEORGE LEWIS can be heard

across black describing a disease spreading from the

northeast south along the coast, and then towards the

western coast of presumable United States. The audience is

painted a grim and dark picture of the world being consumed

by a zombie apocalypse. However not everyone sees this as

such a glass half empty situation...

1.

INT. - DANNY FAIRVIEWS HOUSE - MORNING

The first real image the audience is shown is a first

person point of view of DANNY FAIRVIEW looking at his

television, which is showing an old super bowl replay--to

DANNY this is like his first time seeing it.

DANNY

Come on! What the hell, ref! You couldnt even see your own

colon if your head was shoved up your ass! Bullshit.

The camera dollies back to reveal that DANNY isnt alone,

but that his friend TRENT McCOY is over and sitting next to

him on the couch--looking at Danny as if to say: What the

hell is wrong with you?

TRENT

Youve watched this tape seven times. Why do you act

surprised every time the referee throws a fucking flag. You

know its going to happen, and yet every time you lose it

like its 2002 again.

DANNY

Oh, commercial! I need to grab some more chips before the

game comes back on.

DANNY scrambles up and runs to the kitchen with an empty

bowl.

TRENT

Its taped, Danny. You can just pause the thing.

TRENT pauses the VCR, and from the kitchen you can hear

DANNY rummaging around in the cupboards.

DANNY

(Faintly) Trent, have you seen any more bags of Doritos

lying around?

TRENT

I ate them all.

DANNY enters the living room from the kitchen.

DANNY

Every time this happens. You eat all the chips, and then

you make me go run all the way to the store.

TRENT

You say it like the way there is filled with zombies.

DANNY

Screw you, you know the last time I went for cereal, and I

nearly had an old hag bite my hand off for it.

TRENT

What brand?

DANNY

Raisin Bran.

TRENT

Jesus, those old zombies love their Raisin Bran.

DANNY

Yeh, so this time youre coming with me.

TRENT

Check the bedroom I might have left a bag in there.

DANNY goes off down a hallway and out of sight as TRENT

stands up and takes the VHS tape labeled: SUPER BOWEL 02

out of the VCR--setting it along with others labeled

similarly. TRENT sits back down and begins to click through

the channels of cable television, which are all snow.

TRENT

(To Danny) Isnt there at least one channel with something

on?!

DANNY

(Faintly) You know all the stations went down when the

infection broke out.

TRENT

Im getting so desperate to watch something other than

football that Id be happy with anything. Hell, I wouldnt

even mind Bear Grylls.

DANNY enters the living room again eating out of a bag of

Doritos.

DANNY

You know hes probably out there somewhere.

TRENT

Who?

DANNY

Bear Grylls. Surviving off the land, braving the zombie

apocalypse...

TRENT

If hes so damn smart then why is he lost in every one of

his shows? Thats what I do everyday, not get lost, but

wheres my TV contract?

DANNY

There are so many reasons; do you want me to name a few?

TRENT

Shut up.

DANNY

Youre careless, you never keep your word, youre never on

time, youre bad with money...

As DANNY names off reasons TRENT comes across a channel

with a picture.

TRENT

Hold on, Danny, are you seeing this?

On the television is a news reporter who has just started

his broadcast--its none other than the famous anchor

GEORGE LEWIS from channel 5s newscast. The camera assumes

both TRENT and DANNYs point of view as they watch the

broadcast.

GEORGE

Good evening, America. We have stumbled across dark times,

but I come to you with hope as we tread through the most

grim era that mankind has ever witnessed. If youre

watching this now then I can assume you have not yet been

infected, and that if you managed to survive this far you

would have what it takes to be able to join me. Im holed

out in channel 5s news studio and am calling out to

everyone in hopes to find others who have survived. Please,

if you and anyone else you may know are looking for a way

to a safe haven--free from infection--meet me here at the

studio. Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Youre my only hope.

The broadcast then goes to an off-air bumper leaving TRENT

and DANNY to sit there quiet staring at the blank

television in awe.

DANNY

Im gonna get some Mountain Dew.

TRENT

Wait, now. Hold on. Are you telling me youre just going toignore that? Theres another survivor out there! Weve been

waiting for something like this for months!

DANNY

Do you really expect that this guy is still there and

hasnt been infected yet? Who knows how old that broadcast

is?

TRENT

Well its the only lead weve ever had so Im not going to

throw it aside. Im going. (Stands up)

DANNY

Youve got to be kidding me.

TRENT

And youre coming with me.

DANNY

Do you know how dangerous that is?

TRENT

Its not like we dont have the firepower...

TRENT begins to walk down the hallway.

DANNY

What do you mean? Thats exactly what it means!

TRENT enters his bedroom and rummages through his closet

with the camera facing his back. Finally TRENT finds what

he was looking for and turns around with two heavy-duty

guns.

DANNY

How long have you had those?!

TRENT

Enough to know that these bad boys needed to be saved for

the opportune time, and Danny? I do believe the opportunity

has arisen. Which one you want?

DANNY smiles.

TRENT

But before we head to this news station I have to stop by

at work.

The camera trucks off from a shot of TRENT and transitions

into the next scene.

2.

INT. - HARRISON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - MORNING

The camera transitions into dimly lit makeshift lab in a

classroom where the only light reaching inside is from the

windows with their blinds down. Maybe is playing on the

radio nearby. The audience sees KELLY MAYER, a renowned

scientist, working away at his lab table. At the moment

KELLY is surrounded by lab equipment, and is squeezing a

single drop of a mysterious green liquid onto a Petri dish.

The camera pans across his desk where papers with

mathematical scribbling are sprawled out--its obvious

KELLY is one of those really clich scientists.

As the song ends on the radio an African American disc

jockey comes on the air.

THREE DOG

Youre listening to Galaxy News Radio, and Im your host

Three Dog! Lord and master to everything I survey...

KELLY immediately walks over and begins to tune to another

channel.

KELLY

Goddamn, I hate this station...

SUDDENLY KELLY discovers another station coming in clear--

its GEORGE LEWISS call to action. After hearing it repeat

once KELLY switches off the radio and begins to contemplate

GEORGES offer. He then looks over his lab before finally

exhaling.

KELLY

I think its time to move on.

KELLY grabs his lab coat before then turning to head out.

Once in the hallway, donning his new threads, KELLY makes

he way towards the exit, but begins to hear a menacing

growl.

He turns to see a crouching HUNTER make its way out of a

room while snarling. KELLY knows this means trouble and

turns to run, but the HUNTER LEAPS and BOUNDS towards the

scientist while he tries to escape. However before KELLY

can make his get-away the HUNTER pounces him and begins to

rip and tear at our helpless hero. BUT, low and behold, a

rogue savior appears and runs up to the HUNTER.

TRENTS VOICE

Sorry, bitch, but wheres your hall pass?!

KELLYS savior pulls out a yardstick and smashes it across

the side of the HUNTERS head throwing it to the side.

KELLY

Who are you?! Are you infected? Stay back! I swear if you

get any closer Ill...Ill...

The camera pedestals up from the feet of the mysterious

figure to reveal TRENT McCOY wielding his school-approved

3-foot ruler, and a bag slung over his shoulder.

TRENT

Youll what? Strangle me with a stethoscope? I dont know

about you, but were not infected. So how about you calm

down, Rambo.

TRENT lends KELLY a hand, and helps him up to his feet.

KELLY

Im not a doctor; Im a lab technician, and I dont mean to

act hostile.

TRENT

(To Danny) Danny, over here!

DANNY walks out around a corner and up to the two.

KELLY

I appreciate you helping me out its just I havent seen

another soul out there that hasnt wanted to either eat my

flesh or tear out my organs.

DANNY

Zombies are gross.

TRENT looks over at his companion and just shakes his head.

KELLY

I was actually on my way to the news station across town.

TRENT

Really?! We were actually on our way too, but I needed to

stop into my classroom to pick up some supplies.

KELLY

Youre a teacher?!

TRENT

Is that so hard to believe?

DANNY

Hes great with kids until they smack-talk the Red Sox.

TRENT

God help those bastards if they diss Boston.

KELLY

Well if you dont mind the idea, how about we team up to

get there. I promise to not take all of the kills.

TRENT

Well that is if I leave any for you. My names Trent.

KELLY

Kelly. Kelly Mayer.

DANNY

You sure are burly for a woman, Kelly.

TRENT joins DANNY for a chuckle at his funny, but KELLY is

not amused. TRENT immediately stops laughing as the three

walk off--the camera staying put as it follows them off

down the hallway.

TRENT

That wasnt nice, Danny--apologize.

KELLY

Its all right.

TRENT

No, I insist. Every woman deserves an apology.

KELLY punches TRENT in the arm, and DANNY and TRENT crack

up laughing.

EXT. - HARRISON ELEMENARY SCHOOL - CONTD

The three compadres exit the school lobby and head down the

stairs out front to the sidewalk.

DANNY

So why were you hiding out in an elementary school? Im

guessing from the lab coat your some kind of science guy?

KELLY

Were called scientists, but if you must know I was using

their chemistry equipment along with some of my chemical

supplies to find a cure to the infection. Although the

equipment was simple it was good enough to test samples of

the antidote.

TRENT

Did you ever find a cure?

KELLY

No. Every time I got close the finding it, the disease

evolved and became too strong for the antidote. It seems

that its an ever-changing infection--consistently growing

and becoming more complex. Its strands of DNA fusing and

refusing till it became immune to virtually every variation

of medication I could imagine.

DANNY

Big words make my head hurt.

KELLY

But if I can get to bigger lab like in New York City I

think I could eventually find something one day.

TRENT

Well until then we better get moving--itll be dark soon.

TRENT begins to walk towards a mini van parked out front.

KELLY

Were driving there in a mini van?!

DANNY

Its a hybrid--gets great MPG.

KELLY

Who cares how many miles it gets to the gallon?! If a

zombie horde tries to run up and break through the glass

Id like to know we could drive faster than forty miles per

hour!

TRENT

Hey, dont worry. This baby can jump from zero to sixty in

three seconds.

KELLY

Somehow I doubt that.

All three jump into TRENTS rockin van and speed off down

the road. As they drive across the deserted town to the

channel 5 studio the audience gets an idea for what the

infection has done--leaving not a single soul to be seen.

3.

EXT. - CHANNEL 5 STUDIO - AFTERNOON

Their mini van eventually makes it to the studio and pulls

in to park out front. The three exit the vehicle and stop

to survey the situation.

DANNY

Do you think its safe to just barge in?

TRENT

Theres only one way to find out.

TRENT walks around to the back of his van and opens it.

TRENT

Here take your pick, Kelly.

KELLY walks around to see a few high-powered firearms and

two handguns lying in the back of TRENTS mini van.

KELLY

Now this is what someone needs to clear out a zombie

apocalypse.

TRENT

Take whatever you want to use.

KELLY grabs the two handguns followed by TRENT taking the

automatic shotgun, and DANNY pulling out the MP5.

INT. - CHANNEL 5 STUDIO - CONTD.

They enter the studio lobby and look around. KELLY finally

calls out to the other two and motions them over.

KELLY

I think the studio is over here.

It seems KELLY is right as all three enter the main studio

with the news set and marvel at the size of the room.

DANNY

This is awesome! Ive always watched his newscast, but

never imagined Id see the set in person.

The camera SUDDENLY assumes someones point of view looking

at the three and walking in. The shot cuts to the manssqueaky clean dress shoes and then pedestals up to reveal

GEORGE LEWIS in all his tailored splendor pointing a

revolver at our survivors.

GEORGE LEWIS

This just in: three trespassers, yet to be identified,

break into my news studio. Will I shoot them? Or will they

just be smart and run? All that and more after the

commercial break.

DANNY

George Lewis?! O. M. G.

KELLY

Mr. Lewis, please dont shoot! Were not infected!

Honestly!

GEORGE LEWIS

Well its either I just met the first zombies to learn

English or youre clean of the infection. I guess Im led

to believe the latter. But I have one question for you.

The three look at each other nervously.

GEORGE LEWIS

How was my entrance because Ive been working on that for

ages hoping someone would finally hear my broadcast.

TRENT

It was...good?

GEORGE LEWIS

Whew! I was so nervous!

KELLY

(Whispering to Danny) Hewas nervous?

GEORGE LEWIS

Although look at me rambling on, welcome! This has been my

little safe house for the time being...

DANNY

(Interrupting) Safe house ahead!

An awkward silence follows as everyone looks at Danny

confused.

DANNY

Sorry, its a habit.

GEORGE LEWIS

It seems you all know my name, but I dont know yours.

TRENT

Trent McCoy.

DANNY

Danny Fairview.

KELLY

Kelly Mayer.

GEORGE LEWIS

Kelly? Isnt that a womans name?

KELLY glares at GEORGE LEWIS like he wants to kill him withTRENT and DANNY giggling.

DMITRIS VOICE

Mr. Lewis? Ares you down here?

GEORGE LEWIS

Dmitri, Im over here. We have visitors.

Out from behind a set walks DMITRI, a channel 5 cameraman,

who has worked with GEORGE LEWIS on set for years. He hailsfrom Russia, but manages a broken English accent...very

poorly.

GEORGE LEWIS

Dmitri, people. People, Dmitri.

DMITRI

I is happys to meet you, yes?

TRENT, DANNY, and KELLY exchange looks.

GEORGE LEWIS

God help his English, but boy can he make a damn good

cappuccino. Hes been our best cameraman here at channel

five since the beginning of the station so I dont go

anywhere without him.

DMITRI

This is true.

GEORGE LEWIS

Anyway, I can imagine you want to leave as soon as possible

so as long as youre all ready I think we can go now.

All five begin to walk towards the exit.

GEORGE LEWIS

What did you use to get here?

EXT. - CHANNEL 5 STUDIO - EVENING

They push through the studios doors and walk towards

Trents mini van.

TRENT

We drove in my van.

GEORGE LEWIS

Well its no channel five action news truck, but it will

do.

KELLY

Where are we going anyway?

They all jump into the van with TRENT taking the drivers

seat and GEORGE LEWIS riding shotgun.

GEORGELEWIS

Ive discovered that there is one more train passing

through the town transporting military supplies, and I

managed to have them agree to stop at the train station

tonight.

TRENT has been trying to turn the engine over, but comes

out unsuccessful. GEORGE LEWIS looks over the steeringwheel and notices that their fuel gauge is hanging over the

E.

GEORGE LEWIS

Breaking news! Youre vans out of gas.

TRENT

Shit, Danny I thought I told you to fill it up the next

time you used it.

DANNY

Sorry...I thought the E stood for excellent. As in your

fuel tank is excellently full.

KELLY

(To Trent and Danny) How have you two not been killed yet?

GEORGE LEWIS

Well it looks like were walking from here.

They all exit the vehicle and KELLY looks at the sun

setting worriedly.

KELLY

We better start moving quickly then. Its going to get dark

soon and I dont want to become zombie feed.

TRENT

Come on, then. Lets go!

With TRENT leading the party, all five run off camera.

4.

EXT. - WOODS - EVENING

They all enter a wooden tree line and down a steep bank.

TRENT

Here, we can cut through the woods! Its faster!

GEORGE LEWIS

God help you, Mr. McCoy if my suit tears!

Once they reach the bottom of the bank TRENT begins to look

around confused.

KELLY

Whats wrong? Dont you know how to get to the train

station from here?

TRENT

I think its this way.

KELLY

Think?

TRENT

Just hold on. Let me look around for second.

As TRENT surveys the clearing he notices that GEORGE LEWIS

has a mirrors back covering his face. TRENT pulls the

mirror down slowly to show GEORGE LEWIS, who is now wearing

glasses to look at himself.

TRENT

I dont think this is the best time to be worrying about

how you look, George.

GEORGE LEWIS

(Takes off glasses dramatically) Its the price I pay to be

the best looking news anchor on the air.

TRENT

Youre loony.

GEORGE LEWIS

(Puts glasses back on) Youre just jealous because I make

taking these glasses off look damn good (Takes glasses

off).

DANNY

(Worried) Hey, I think we should get moving, guys!

KELLY

Why?

DANNY

Because weve been spotted!

The camera turns to expose a handful of zombies sprinting

their way across the clearing.

TRENT

Shit! Shit! Run!

All five begin to run in the opposite direction while

firing back at the horde of zombies--taking out a few.

KELLY

(Pointing) Theres a train track! Come on!

Only four jump down to the track, which is settled deeper

than the clearing. A few zombies follow them, but are shot

as they try to make it down. They hide behind an old traincar to catch their breath although it isnt long before

DMITRI notices their news anchor companion is missing.

DMITRI

Mr. Lewis?! Where is Mr. Lewis?!

TRENT

I dont know, I thought he was right behind us!

The camera cuts back to the clearing where GEORGE LEWIS is

staring down a lone zombie--its a clich western duel

scene with the music of Ennio Morricone and everything.

GEORGE LEWIS

This town isnt big enough for the both of us, Mr. Zombie.

The zombie is incapable of responding but just groans.

GEORGE LEWIS

Thats exactly what I was thinking.

GEORGE LEWISS hand is poised to withdraw his revolver, and

after a number of shots of the stand off getting

progressively more close up the camera strikes a quick shot

of GEORGE LEWISS eyes before he whips out his six shooter

and blasts away the zombie. The western music fades away as

the news anchor spins his revolver around his finger and

slides it back into its holster.

GEORGE LEWIS

Sorry, maybe next time.

GEORGE LEWIS tips his head and walks off camera--the scene

cutting back to the other four at the train car where the

anchor rejoins them.

DMITRI

Mr. Lewis! You has returned!

DMITRI lunges forward and hugs GEORGE LEWIS who, wide-eyed,

lightly pats his back.

GEORGE LEWIS

Glad to see you too, Dmitri.

TRENT

Okay, as long as the reunion is over the train yard is

straight ahead. I say we make a run for the station.

KELLY

The big finale, eh?

TRENT

But before we go I say we could use a little pick-me-up.

TRENT reaches into his bag that he has been carrying along

with him and pulls out a bottle of pills.

DANNY

(Pointing at bottle) Pills here!

KELLY looks at DANNY confused.

KELLY

You have to stop doing that.

TRENT pours out a few into everyones hands before they all

knock back the medication.

DMITRI

Wowwww! Tastes like coconut!

TRENT

Lets go!

5.

EXT. - TRAIN YARD - CONTD

The group runs along the train tracks into the train yard

as the zombies scattered around notice the non-infectedtrespassing on their turf--that doesnt sit well with them.

With incoming zombies, the four with guns begin to fire

away. DMITRI, however, finds comfort in a crowbar leaning

against a shed. Eventually they make their way down the

track until KELLY spots the train station.

DANNY

Train station is ahead!

EXT. - TRAIN STATION - TWILIGHT

They run across to the station and up the steps leading

inside through the entrance.

INT. - TRAIN STATION - CONTD

Inside they see a lone figure inside sitting that gets up

and walks over to GEORGE LEWIS.

DERRICK

Mr. Lewis, I presume?

GEORGE LEWIS

Derrick, good to finally meet you!

DERRICK

Ill radio the train now. Whos all with you?

Well, myself, Dmitri, Trent, Danny, and Kelly.

DERRICK

(Into radio) Derrick to train.

RADIO

Copy.

DERRICK

Including myself we have five men and one woman requesting

to be picked up.

RADIO

On our way.

KELLY

Youve got to be kidding me...
