Scott West Completes Busy Week Wins 9th

Grade League State TitleThe Eastview Lightning In-

vitational team competition on Saturday was won by Farming-ton with 1855 points while a skeletal Scott west team would manage to score a fifth-best 105 pointsBrendan Mackedanz made

good on his opportunity as the senior won the 120-pound championship with a dominat-ing 13-2 major decision over winonarsquos Eli Fabion After taking a 2-0 first-period

lead with a nice leg attack take down Mackedanz opened the flood gates during periods two and three as he took Fabion to his back after two reversals in each periodThe state of Scott west wres-

tling got a big boost as senior heavyweight josiah Schatz re-turned to the lineup for the first time this season and pinned Farmingtonrsquos Trevor Frost for the championshipSchatz had advanced to the

championship match with a big pin of Eastviewrsquos Tim Duffy in the semifinals as each of the wrestlers had placed fifth in the state in their respective AA and AAA heavyweight classes last yearldquoObviously it is good to have

josiah back out and wrestlingrdquo states Scott west co-head coach Darren Ripley ldquoI think it may have taken a little longer than we would have liked but the important thing is that he has made the weight and just as important is that he wrestled pretty well against some pretty good competitionrdquoScott west sophomore jack-

son Stauffacher was the third Panther individual champion on the day as the 126-pounder won a wild 12-9 decision over jackson Smith from Amery wis Another Scott west sopho-

more was in the championship finals at 182 pounds as Ty-ler Buesgens went to the mat against Farmingtonrsquos highly-regarded senior Taylor venz The former Farmington state champion was able to get off to a fast start against Buesgens as he used two well-executed leg attacks to take a 4-1 first-period lead Buesgens won the battle from there on as he outscored venz 3-2 in periods two and three but it was not enough as the Farmington wrestler won the championship bout 6-4 and Buesgens would end up with a second-place finishThe Panthers had other East-

view Lightning Invitational place-winners in jack Fogarty who was fifth at 132 Dylan johnson who was sixth at 160 and Noah Ellingsworth who was sixth at 170 Earlier in the week Scott

west traveled to wayzata (Thursday night) where it post-ed a pair of dual meet victories by beating Chaska-Chanhassen 53-12 and host wayzata 42-27 On Friday night the Panthers scored a 50-18 Minnesota Con-ference win over Tri-City unit-ed in front of a big home crowd in Belle Plaine The Panthers have another

big week of wrestling ahead as they will be at home in Belle Plaine Thursday night against Le Sueur-Henderson and Ea-gan before a Friday night show-down at jordan Middle School against Coon Rapids Following those two nights of wrestling at home Scott west will travel to the Forest Lake Duals on Sat-urday where there will most likely be in a meeting with the Class AA 5-rated Foley ldquoItrsquos timerdquo states Ripley ldquoIf

we are going to put together a team that is going to compete for the Section 2AA team cham-pionship now is the timerdquo
