It is the silver anniversary of the Christmas In Historic Springboro festival. And as in years past, Main Street will be lined with all the yuletide spirit of the season. The festival has been recognized as the largest three-day festi- vals in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. The annual festival attracts more than 50,000 people, who have enjoyed the entertainment, tasted the variety of food available and purchased many items from vendors participating in the event. The theme of this year’s festival is “Santa’s Silver Celebration” in honor of the event’s 25-year history. The KHS Athletic Hall of Fame Committee was estab- lished by the Kiser High School Alumni Association on Feb. 23, 2009. Its purpose is twofold: to identify and honor those KHS alumni and/or coach- es who brought fame, honor and glory to themselves and favorable recognition to their Alma Mater, and to bestow formal recognition upon those persons selected. On Oct. 16, the third annual Kiser High School Athletic hall of Fame induction ceremony and dinner took place at the Celebrations Banquet Hall in Dayton. Joe Miko, Jr. was one of 10 inducted. As a standout football player at Kiser, Joe Miko (Class of 1961) only knew one way to play: He played HARD ALL THE TIME!! This approach of never letting up even in practice earned him the respect of his coaches and shocked and surprised his teammates. The team is selling tickets for a chance to win the new vehicle to help raise funds for its spring break trip to Florida. Tickets are $20 each. Only 2,000 tickets will be sold. If less than 1,500 tickets are sold, the contest will become a 50/50 cash pot. The drawing will be held at the Dec. 9 Springboro Varsity boys basketball game. Players and parents will be sell- ing raffle tickets as well as yo-yo balloons at Christmas in Springboro, Nov. 18-20. Tickets can also be purchased from any junior varsity or varsity baseball player. The baseball team will be trav- eling to Florida for spring break for the first time in three years. Both the junior varsity and varsi- ty teams will be playing four games against teams from all over the country at the Wide World of Sports facility at Disney World. “This is a great opportunity for our teams to get in some strong competition before we begin our regular season here. We’re very excited about the development opportunity for the players,” says Mark Pelfrey, Springboro’s varsi- ty baseball coach. Other fund raisers the team has undertaken were a chicken din- ner before a football game, bag- ging groceries at Cub Foods, and a rummage sale. In addition, they have an ongo- ing recycling fundraiser, collect- ing used electronic equipment including cell phones, cameras, computers and ink cartridges.
