singing and entertaining in many bars and hotels there, but while on his return home from a performance he was involved in a traffic accident which cost him his life.He was a popular entertainer in many venues on the island; I remember him singing and compering in Amandas.Well, after St. David's Day, Mothering Sunday, St. Patrick's Day and Easter hopefully we can now settle down into the year !As most of you read this many C. I. U. delegates will be off to Blackpool for their annual conference. Part 1I've got a lot of acts to write about so I'll get on with it straight away!Firstly, to bring last year to a close we had the welcome return of local live 5 piece The Silhouettes who played a wide range of material from the 60s era including songs by Cliff Richard, The Casuals, The Fortunes and Jeff Beck. Great musicianship and vocals getting the dancers up at the end of the night. Next was the monthly paid show which brought the return due to their popularity of UB40 tribute band Kingston Town, who once again filled the room with their huge and loyal following, and I'm sure they'll be back sometime this year.Following them was the welcome return of local vocalist Ben Fischer who as always went down well with a wide mixture of songs from the 60s to the present day charts along with a few Christmas songs, with Happy Christmas (War Is Over) being a personal highlight. Local male duo Retro gave us a great Christmas Eve with some superb songs, mainly from the 80s, sung and played majestically with a very effective light show. They have richly deserved winning the Best Duo award two years in a row as they're very talented; the only setback was the disappointing turnout but those who were there thoroughly enjoyed it.The next two acts were treats for the kids with a disco on Boxing Day and the panto Puss In Boots the night after. I think the panto was a treat for the adults too as they were up for it!One of the best singers in Leicester was on next, Chrissy, who has an amazing voice along with a bubbly, friendly personality. Songs by the likes of The Carpenters, Leo Sayer and New Seekers kept everyone entertained, clapping, singing and dancing, and she'll be always welcomed back. The last show of 2012 on New Years Eve brought local 3 piece Johnny Panic who entertained the full room with some great sounds from the 80s, full of energy and excellent singing and playing they worked really hard all night, also providing the disco between their sets and some magic and balloon presents. We got a love heart which was nice! The room had a party atmosphere from start to finish with everyone bringing in the New Year in perfect celebrations.This year started really well with local 5 piece Funktion Junction - in a short space of time this band is proving to be one of Leicester's best with tremendous vocals and musicianship. They showcased their new keyboard player on the night and with limited rehearsal was absolutely amazing, not dropping a note all night and fits into the band perfectly. Next was the return of male/female duo 2CT who hadn't been here for a while but it was worth the wait with Sally and Darren singing brilliantly both individually and in unison with great songs to suit all ages and tastes.The January paid show was a big success with Take That tribute band Beautiful Circus and Claire Mac plus some songs from a Michael Buble tribute. Despite the atrocious weather conditions the room was full and everyone enjoyed it - I'm sure once again that the show will return in the not to distant future. Following that I had a last minute cancellation but got lucky in that a 4 piece live band from Mansfield were available, by the name of The Detectives, who stepped into the breach. These are Brian Poole's backing band and showed their outstanding quality with all four singing splendid lead vocals and harmonies along with incredible musicianship. Songs by the likes of The Hollies, The Animals, Kings of Leon and of course The Tremeloes went down a bomb with the small ( due to the weather ) but appreciative audience. They are one of the best bands I've ever booked and they will definitely be returning on a warmer night! See ya next month ...... Steve Rushin - Ent. Sec.

C.Considering all entertainment venues after Christmas and New Year tend to trim their budgets, I must say the quality we have maintained with our live bands at the club has remained top class, (and I must also mention that some bands are cheaper than some self contained duos!)We've had, THE ORGANIZERS, THE FREEZE, THE MIDNIGHTS, 3 PHAZE, ACSIA, THE PULSE and THE CREW, all top live groups.It always amazes me that there are musicians who stand there playing live on instruments they have practised for hours to entertain us, for less reward than a solo artist who has only invested in backing tracks..Which brings me on to audiences - in my club we have a lot of visitors who spend good money on taxis to come and see our acts, and every week I do ask for all conversations to be kept low....... BUT every week I get complaints because of ignorant people with no manners who shout across tables. Its a problem upsetting me, but I am determined to get order for my members and guests. I'm appealing here to visitors to our club to respect others and keep their conversations to a reasonable level. Ray Saville - Ent. Sec.

Part 2To end January we had one of Leicester's best young bands making a welcome return to the club, 4 piece live band The Atlantics did the honours in super style playing songs by the likes of The Beatles, Arctic Monkeys, The Kinks, The Jam and The Killers. Top quality singing and playing by a band with immense talent.February began with one of Leicester's best veteran bands; 4 piece Ready Steady Go are very popular here and rightly so as all four are amazing musicians topped by fabulous lead and harmony vocals. A night of 60s songs by the likes of The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Animals, The Byrds and The Shirelles - they are back at the end of the year for what I'm sure will be another full house.Following them was the first visit here for young female duo Birdheart and it won't be the last as they went down a bomb with both having exquisite singing voices and pleasant personalities. They sang a wide variety of material from the 60s through to the present day
and I received lots of positive comments from people telling me how much they enjoyed them.Next was the monthly paid show with a disappointing turnout but a fantastic show. Local singer Neil Warner presented his Swing Mania show with all of the Rat Pack stuff, a bit of Buble and a great version of Amarillo swing style! The second half of the show belonged to comedy duo the outrageous Misfits who gave us some hilarious original comedy with costume changes for the music side of it interspersed with good clean comedy giggles. It kept up
the high standard of these shows giving value for money.This months show continues that theme with a two for the price of one tribute show - top quality tributes to The Bee Gees and Abba on Friday April 12th for only £6.00 a ticket. Imagine how many hits you'll be hearing that night - definitely a show not to be missed with tickets on sale now at the club; see you there!Following that was the debut performance here from local live 5 piece The Midnights who gave us some great lively material with superb musicianship, brilliant female lead vocals and effective lighting - they can enjoy a very fruitful future!Time for Blackpool now for the Command Show about which I'll report on when I return.See ya next month ........
