THE ELMS SOCIAL AND SERVICE CLUBThe entertainment at the club to conclude April saw the welcome return to the club for local male duo Retro, Mark and Richard are a very popular duo here and as always they went down well and gave us a good night. A mixture of material from all eras in the first set and then mainly 80's songs in the second set getting a lot of people on the dance floor. Songs by the likes of Duran Duran, Madness, Soft Cell, Erasure and Bad Manners were all embraced warmly by everyone. Looking forward to seeing them back next year sometime. May began with local guitar male duo Jack Flash, they played mainly 60's songs including songs by The Searchers, Johnny Cash, Rolling Stones, The Kinks and Chris Farlowe. Great lead and backing vocals with excellent musicianship by both. Next up was another very popular act here, trio Crackerjack who as always presents a first class show. They now have a new female singer in the act who added a new dimension to the show as she replaced a male singer, Tributes to the wartime, Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons and The Welsh Miners were the core of the show with lots of stuff in between. With the perfect mix of songs and comedy, the presentation was perfect with a video screen and effective lighting. A great all round show that I’d recommend to any venue. Next was the monthly paid show with tributes to Abba and Peter Kay, it was a huge success with a great turnout and numerous reports of how much people enjoyed it. This month it’s Take@That. Make sure that you get your tickets in advance as it’s sure to be a sell out. Following that was the welcome return to the club for local guitar vocalist Vinny Christian. He can’t go wrong down here, never fails to have a good night, songs to suit all ages and tastes were well received and he’ll always be welcomed back. Yet another act who are immensely popular here are local three piece 3 Phaze. The room was full all night for these guys and they delivered some superb sounds, songs by the likes of The Move, Squeeze, The Commodores, The Drifters and The Fortunes got everyone clapping and singing with a full dance floor at the end of the night. Well, this month I’ll be getting hot as I’m going to Spain for a lovely holiday with the best lady in the world. It’ll be the first time I’ll be going abroad so it’s going to be a little adventure. Being in Thurmaston village with three pubs and two other clubs, I stopped booking karaokes because sometimes there were five on the same night.
