    President’s Message

Time sure does fly. November 5 marks one year since I took over as acting President. It has been quite an interesting experience for me. If you didn’t visit the Danube Centre on October 19 you missed a great craft show. The different format worked out really well. There was something to see and buy for everyone. So many members worked tirelessly to make this show possible. They all deserve a big thank you. Just a reminder: Nov 21 is the cabbage roll lunch and December 14 the Christmas dinner. To purchase tickets for either you are required to have a valid 2019 membership. - Elke

    Craft Show

I am happy to report that the Craft Show at the Danube Centre on October 19th was a success. The vendors that I spoke with were impressed by the venue and happy with the turnout and sales. This could not have happened without the assistance of the Woodworkers’, the crafters, the excellent kitchen staff and all the members who stocked the bake table. Bill Burlton and I would also like to thank those who helped in the set up and take down as we could not have done it ourselves. - Bill Burlton/Al Charlebois

    Celebrating 90 BIG ONES!!!!

In mid-September, members of the Friday Fitness Class

were informed that one of our long-time participants

would be celebrating a milestone birthday at the end of

the month. With the clandestine help of her family and

friend Kerstin Calderone, flowers, cake, and mayoral

presentation were arranged and on September 27th, at

the end of the weekly class, in the presence of local

media, Daisy Kolieff’s 90th birthday was celebrated at

the Danube Centre. It was a joyful occasion and we

were all delighted that Daisy was completely surprised.

    Boutique News

Hello Everyone, Well I think our autumn days are coming to an end. The leaves are

falling very fast and the squirrels are working hard hiding the acorns. The Boutique

has been very busy and active this past month. Thanks to all who donated gently worn

clothing and footwear for us to sell. We have done very well with them. There are

still some summer items on the racks and the winter clothes are being put out weekly.

The exciting news is that there will be a 50% sale on most items during the month of

Nov. There is a lot to choose from for women and men with fantastic prices. We

expect to be quite busy with it, so make sure you get in as early as you can.

Once again thank you to everyone who brought in items and many thanks to those

who bought them. All money goes directly to the Centre to help with running the

    activities, events, etc.

Hope to see you at the Boutique. Spread the word.

    - Olga Bishop

  • Craft Show Photos October 19th

  • November Boutique Sale - 50% off For the whole month of November, items will be available at more than

    reasonable prices!

Don’t miss the sale – this sale does not happen often!

Have you moved recently? Please let us know your current phone

number, email and street Address, so we can stay in touch.

Movies, we have Movies In our library section you will see some good movies to borrow. Most are VHS, a few are DVD’s but we have a VHS/DVD player than you can borrow along with the movies. Some of the titles are: Spartacus with Kirk Douglas, The Vikings with Tony Curtis, The Thin Man with Myrna Loy and William Powell and many more.

    Mindful Meditation Yoga

Genevieve Ford of Inner Reflections would like to offer Danube members a complimentary class in meditation techniques. Meditation helps to release and reduce stress, which is something we all probably need. This class would be available upstairs and uses chairs, so no yoga mats are needed. Date wise, sometime after Christmas would be likely. A signup sheet will be available on the bulletin board shortly.

  • SATURDAY MOVIE NOVEMBER 23 Waking Ned Devine

Have you ever dreamed of winning the lottery? Or, as in the

past, The Irish Sweepstakes? If I remember correctly, buying

a ticket for the Irish Sweepstakes was originally illegal in

Canada, though I remember my parents and everyone else

who could scrape together the few dollars it took to buy a

ticket, doing so in hope of winning a life of ease.

But could you stand the shock of actually winning? In the

case of fictional Ned Devine, his heart just couldn’t. But

Ned’s loyal friends decide that he would have wanted his

winnings to benefit their entire village, and that’s where the

    hilarity begins.

If you haven’t seen this comedy, or even if

you have, come to the Danube Centre on

    Saturday, November 23rd @ 1 p.m. $3.

Per person and share an afternoon of

    laughter.

    - Jan

Thank you to everyone who signed up for the Danube Book Club! We are happy to announce that our first meeting will be held in January on a Monday afternoon. Time and location to be

    announced.

On the subject of books, our tireless volunteers who sort and shelve all the books we receive have

a request to make: while very much appreciating the books donated by our members, Hard Cover

books cannot be accommodated, nor can text books be accepted. Please, only donate clean

    paperbacks. Thank you.

THE INTELLECTUALS Two retired professors were vacationing with their

wives at a hotel in the Catskills. They were sitting

on the veranda one summer evening, watching the

    sunset.

The history professor asked the psychology

    professor, “Have you read Marx?”

To which the professor of psychology replied, “Yes

and I think it’s these damned wicker chairs!”

  • SHOP LIFTING

    This 80-year-old woman

    was arrested for shop

    lifting. When she went

    before the judge in

    Cincinnati, he asked her,

    “what did you steal”? She

    replied “A can of peaches”.

    The judge then asked her

why she had done that and

    she answered that she was

    hungry. The judge then

    asked her how many

    peaches were in the can,

    she replied 6. The judge

then said, “I’ll give you 6

    days in jail then”. Before

    the judge could conclude

    the trial, the woman’s

    husband spoke up and

asked the judge if he could

    say something. The judge

    said what is it? The

    husband replied. “She also

    stole a can of peas!”
