FRIDAY 23 MARCH 2018 | TERM 1 | WEEK 8

Principal’s Message Well done everyone for another two super busy and rewarding weeks. It is been pleasing to see so many children being rewarded for their efforts both here at school and on the sporting fields. Congratulations everyone. Students in Years 3 and 5 have been doing trial NAPLAN on line this week and that has been successful, so we will be doing NAPLAN online in May. More information regarding this will be sent home early next term. School photos are scheduled for Friday 4 May – envelopes will come home shortly. Remember everyone must return their photo envelope whether you are ordering or not as all students have their photo taken for our records. These envelopes are to be returned with your child on school photo day, not before. School Drop Off and Pick Up/Parking I know that I mention this every week – however it is still a concern. We have had a lengthy phone conversation with Ballina Council this week regarding parent behaviour in drop off areas. It would be preferable for everyone’s safety if parents park only in approved parking areas. Council rangers will be patrolling the area at the back of the school particularly monitoring behaviours in this area. A reminder the back car park is for staff only. If you do need to park to come into the school, the community centre car park is an option. Or, you may need to park in a side street and walk into the school. Be mindful though once again of obeying all car parking signs. Parking will continue to be an issue at our school, especially as we continue to grow, so we may need to do things a little differently. For example walk or ride with your children to school if possible instead of using your car. The bus service provided by Blanchs is excellent. If your child does not have a bus pass and you wish to enquire about bus travel you do need to complete an online form. Alternatively contact Blanchs regarding pick up locations and bus services. All Kinder and Year One children are eligible for free bus travel, regardless of where they live. At the end of the school day it would be appreciated if students and parents leave the school site as soon as possible. A reminder the playground equipment is not to be used after hours. If children want to play, please take them to the local park. As the school grounds are used after hours for Before and After School Care and it does make supervision particularly difficult for them if other children are running around on site. A reminder to if you have a kindergarten student that finishes at 3 and you are waiting for other siblings - please be mindful that other classes are still working. Please ensure children are not running around or playing on the large play equipment, as it is disruptive to classes who are still working. Next term this won’t be an issue as all students will finish school at 3:25pm. Additionally, it is greatly appreciated that parents are on time to collect children from school. The office staff and teachers are not able to look after children after school. Remember that we have families and after school appointments also that we need to attend. Your support in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Due Dates/Notes A reminder when we sent out notes regarding payment of items and returning of permission notes-you must adhere to the provided dates. As you can appreciate there is a lot of organisation in preparing any excursion or other event, late payments create problems for us. From this point forward no payment or notes can be accepted after the due dates provided on the notes unless there are exceptional circumstances which you may have notified us about. We thank you for your understanding in this matter. P&C AGM It was wonderful to see so many people at the P&C AGM last Tuesday. Congratulations to all the current office bearers and a big thank you to people who have taken on roles on various committees. It is wonderful to see such a positive group of people committed to making our school an even more wonderful place to be. Kind Regards Deb Langfield Library News CWA CWA information was handed out recently. The topic is Poland. All entries to Mrs Blair by Friday 8 June. Library bags Please encourage students to use their library bags. It keeps the books dry in their school bags. If you have any plastic shopping bags that are of no use at your home they would be greatly appreciated in the library. Grandparent’s day Please send in the RSVP note so teachers know how many grandparents will be visiting their grandchildren. Library days Monday: 6C, 2B, 1Z, KD Tuesday: 1/2O, KC, 4/5R, 2N Wednesday: 5/6S, KT, 5R, 3A Thursday: 3H, 3/4J, KR Friday: 4C/E, 1MP Kindergarten Easter Egg Craft Kindergarten had so much fun designing and decorating Easter Eggs and they are currently displayed at Ballina Fair Shopping Centre. Sport News AFL On Tuesday 20 March, Nick W attended the North Coast PSSA AFL trials at Yamba. Nick played two games of Aussie Rules Footy before the selectors picked the Regional team. Nick did not progress to the next level, however, he played brilliantly all day and was pleased to have made the Zone team. Well done Nick! District soccer On Monday 19 March four boys and four girls trialled for the Headlands District PSSA Soccer teams. After showcasing their skills, Dominic D, Maddie A, and Sophie R were selected for District teams that will travel to South Tweed Heads next Wednesday. We wish them all well in advancing to the Zone team. Rugby On Friday 16 March Lennox Head sent eleven students to Brunswick Heads to compete in the NSW Primary 7’s competition. After some skills and drills with NSW Waratahs staff, the boys played four games, winning each one. Finn S had a great day on the park, scoring countless tries, while there were standout efforts across the field. Noah M was a great sport, ensuring each of his team mates received fair playing time. Callum S was a consistent and solid performer in the forwards, ensuring the Lennox ruck held up all day. Dylan W showed great integrity when he sought out the referee to check that he

hadn’t made illegal contact in the lead up to his try. The boys now advance to the Far North Coast final in Wollongbar next Tuesday. Good luck boys! Zone Tennis On Wednesday 14 March Jamilah B attended the PSSA Far North Coast Tennis trials at Mullumbimby Tennis Club. There were a lot of talented girls at the trial, and Jamilah managed to place fifth on the day. She is now heading off to the North Coast Trials next week and she can’t wait. Best of luck Jamilah! School Cricket On Wednesday 21 March Lennox Head’s Cricket team competed against Byron Bay Public School in the first fixture of the PSSA Cricket Knockout competition. Byron won the toss and elected to bat, amassing a total of 79 in their 25 overs. Lennox chased down Byron’s total in only 21 overs, meaning they will progress into the next round. Lennox will now face Mullumbimby in the coming weeks. Good luck boys. Regional Cricket On the weekend of the 10 March, Bradyen K and Dominic D travelled to Sawtell to trial for the North Coast Cricket team. Playing for the Far North Coast, the boys played Lower North Coast in their first game which they won. Unfortunately they then lost their second game. Brayden K was successful in gaining selection as a bowler for the North Coast team which will compete in October at Barooga at the State competition. Brayden’s figures were quite impressive, taking 3/9 off 7 overs with 4 maidens. Great effort from both boys and good luck later this year Brayden! We are aware that some students missed out on certificates for their sport achievements and they will be given out on a later date.
