FRIDAY 29 MARCH 2019 | TERM 1 | WEEK 9
Principal’s Message
Another two weeks have flown by at Lennox Head Public
School. It was wonderful to watch how engaged and
enthusiastic all of our students were at the recent
Bullying No Way Action Day, thanks to Mrs Dyer for
organising. All of our students have also been continuing
to enjoy our dance lessons with the Footsteps Dance
Company. Some students have really perfected their
dancing skills and the instructors have been impressed
with the great respect shown by all of our students. Well
done everyone.
We have two more weeks of school prior to having our
first break. School will finish on Friday 12 April and
students will then resume on Tuesday 30 April. Please
note as Anzac Day falls in the holidays we will be
sending out information in the next two weeks regarding
the march that is held each year in Ballina. I will also
need to check school leader’s availability as school
representatives.
The following is designed to outline some procedures at
Lennox Head Public School in relation to communication,
as there seems to be some ongoing confusion regarding
communication and closing/due by dates.
The Parent Teacher Interviews scheduled for
Wednesday 27 March was notified to parents in our
newsletter that was posted on School Stream and the
school website on Friday 15 March. This had all the
necessary information on how to book and it was noted
on the calendar on the front of the newsletter as an
upcoming event.
In addition, a reminder was School Streamed on two
separate occasions Thursday 21 and Monday 25 March
as a courteous reminder. There must be a cutoff date
and time to allow teachers time to prepare for interviews
and also to allow them time to organise their own families
and child care arrangements after school as necessary.
As the school leader my staff and I are becoming
increasingly frustrated when our parent body claims to
have not received any information regarding school
events. It is parents/carers responsibility to ensure that
you read the communication that is issued by the school.
We don’t send everything home in hard copy, as we are
trying to reduce our paper usage to help the environment.
We produce the newsletter to provide you with all of the
school information that you need to know. Please ensure
that you read the newsletter each fortnight, as often this
will answer your queries/concerns before needing to
contact the school.
Many of us have students at other schools and as
parents it is our responsibility to ensure that we read
communication sent out by those schools. This enables
us to be aware of what is happening in their schools. In
addition it ensures that we are aware of items we may
need to address such as upcoming events or booking
appointments.
The office staff received an enormous amount of calls
from parents who still wanted to book Parent Teacher
Interviews after the deadline had passed. The office are
happy to help when possible, however they shouldn’t
have to be doing this as it takes them away from their
daily business. It also means extra interruptions to
teachers to see if they are able to accommodate the
request. As the school continues to grow there are more
demands placed upon both office and teaching staff. It
has to be a team effort whereby everyone does their bit
to ensure the systems run smoothly.
We understand there will be at times extenuating
circumstances whereby exceptions will need to be made
due to unforeseen events. We are certainly happy to
assist when this occurs.
In today’s society everyone has incredibly busy lives, but
as parents/carers it is our role to ensure we are assisting
our children with their education through reading and as
necessary, acting upon school communications. This
makes everyone’s jobs much easier.
We have recently put together a communication outline
that should also help parents. It is attached to this
newsletter along with the school charter. If you would
prefer a hard copy these are available in the office.
Have a great weekend

LSTT Band News Tryout Lessons This term some students have been trying out a band instrument. Notes about continuing in Term 2 have now gone home with these students (copies are available from Miss Somerville). These notes are for parents and students to read through together. If students wish to continue they need to have the continuation form back by Friday 5 April to the office. Students not wishing to continue will need to hand their instrument back in at the end of this term. Any students still waiting to try an instrument will be given an opportunity early in Term 2. Any questions please contact Fiona Clarke [email protected].
