The re- stricons around excursions have limited the amount of visits we have been able to make, but it is really pleasing to see that the work of showcasing our wonderful school has started to pay off and we are seeing an influx of inter- est from families wanng to join us in 2021 and beyond. As it currently stands, 2021 has the potenal to be one of our biggest intakes of students in our recent history. This speaks wonders of everything that our staff and the wider community do to make this school a great place. The welcoming nature of our parents and wider community and the professionalism of our staff makes Lenswood somewhere very easy to promote. If you know of anyone else who is interested in checking out the school, we are sll taking booking for parent tours in term three and I would be happy to show them around. Lenswood Primary School - Newsletter

It is great to see that as of next week, most restrictions at school will be lift-ed and we can resume the majority of programs from the commencement of term three. I’ll start this week’s newsletter with a bit of information about what will be returning next term:

Restrictions easing:

From Monday 29 June, the following activities can resume providing gov-ernment health advice and physical distancing requirements are strictly fol-lowed:

Parents and volunteer programs can recommence – site entry form must be signed and we must adhere to 1 adult per 4 square metre rule.

School assemblies will recommence Term 3 with audience again on-site following 1.5m distancing between adults and 4 square metre rule.

All intrastate (within SA) excursions and camps are permitted.

All school sport competitions, sports days, carnivals are permitted (no change room access or showers).

Inter-school choirs and bands, discos, formals, graduation ceremonies can take place.

Playgroups or occasional care can commence.

Enrolment trends:

As a school we have been putting a significant amount of time into working with the local kindys and showcasing what Lenswood has to offer. The re-strictions around excursions have limited the amount of visits we have been able to make, but it is really pleasing to see that the work of showcasing our wonderful school has started to pay off and we are seeing an influx of inter-est from families wanting to join us in 2021 and beyond. As it currently stands, 2021 has the potential to be one of our biggest intakes of students in our recent history. This speaks wonders of everything that our staff and the wider community do to make this school a great place. The welcoming nature of our parents and wider community and the professionalism of our staff makes Lenswood somewhere very easy to promote. If you know of anyone else who is interested in checking out the school, we are still taking booking for parent tours in term three and I would be happy to show them around. Please contact the school to book a tour or pass on my email to friends or family.

cont’d… from the Principal, Jess Moroney

Year 7 to High School

Next year will be another interesting year for all primary schools as we support two cohorts of students to graduate in the one year. We have put a lot of time and effort into looking at what the two cohorts will mean for school enrolments and as mentioned above it is pleasing to see great results. It is now time to shift our focus and make decisions around how we support our 2021 year 6 and 7 students to give them a fantastic final year of primary school. This will be a different year and no doubt parents of 2021 year 6 and 7 students will have questions. Early next term we will hold student forums to start discussing a few burning questions such as: will we have one seniors top or two? Will there be one graduation or two? Will graduation follow the existing format or will we have to restructure? Will year 6 and 7 students have the same opportunities with student leadership? Is my child ready for high school as a year 6? Will my year 7 get overlooked because of the younger cohort graduating? No doubt there will be plenty more and we will be working collectively with staff, students and parents to ensure 2021 is highly successful for all year 6 and 7 students. Our first step will be to consult all students in those year levels, before forming a working party with staff, student and parent representatives. It is our intention to have these pivotal de-cisions made prior to the end of this year, so we can go into next year with clear direction for all. What we do know is that year 6 and 7 students will be graduating at the end of next year whether we like it or not, so rather than look for the negatives, as a school we intend on making 2021 a year of exciting chang-es and experiences for all students including the year 6 and 7 graduating group. Keep an eye out for an invite to join the working party commencing in term three this year.

Well, that’s about all for this term. It has been a whirlwind, but I am pleased to say that even with the sig-nificant challenges thrown at us we can go into the holiday break with a great sense of satisfaction around the way the staff, students and families worked together and we are coming out the other side of the COVID era stronger than ever. Enjoy the final week of school and hopefully a restful holiday break.

Take care, Jess.

Kay Stafford - 60 years of teaching

Most of you will know Lenswood’s lovely, local lady Kay Stafford. Did you know Kay started her teaching

career right here in Lenswood 60 years ago? It was the Forest School Lenswood then. Kay still teaches

here at Lenswood covering teachers when they are away but also volunteering almost every day listening

to most students read. She’s our local legend!! A little something Kay came across reading her diary re-

cently:

On June 28, 1960 Kay Langmead started teaching at Forest School Lenswood!

I came to board at Mr & Mrs Giles (where Robert and Nicola Green live today on Coldstore Rd) and travelled up here on Graeber's Bus.

My Principal was Keith Murdoch (Warren’s dad).

I met Cam in Giles’ Packing shed the first night I arrived in Lenswood, and of course the rest is History!!

So it is exactly 60 years (this Sunday) since Kay came to Lenswood and started teaching. What a great decision the Education Department made in sending her here all those years ago, I think you’ll all agree.

PJ Day & Crazy Bed Hair

We are having a PJ Day on Friday, 3 July to support the Pyjama Day Foundation. This foundation sup-

ports students in foster care. We thought we’d include a crazy ‘bed’ hair component also. We are having

a shared spaghetti & garlic bread lunch for $5. A note will go home on Friday with an order form for your

lunch order. As this is a fundraiser, a gold coin donation on the day would be greatly appreciated.

Reminders...

A reminder to parents that we do not heat lunches from home on Mondays. Mondays are our Hot Dog

lunch or our P&F lunch. Sometimes we need to use the pie warmer and the oven for these lunches and

having other lunches brought from home to heat up on these days makes it a bit tricky logistically.

Lenswood Beanies

Flexibuzz

As of next term Flexibuzz as we know it will be no more. It will change to Flexischools. We don’t know

much more at this stage but stay tuned, the moment we hear more we will let you know.

Wall Family Plaques

Don’t forget to get your order in, you’re not too late. These plaques look just great and are a forever re-

minder of your time at our school.
