Old city center in maribor – LENT with the old vine
Water tower next to the Drava river bed in Maribor hasn’t changed since 1555.
It represents renaissance town fortification, which protected southeastern part of city wall on the edge of the river Drava.
Lent is old city center in Maribor. The name Lent
origins from the old German word Lander (= port). This old city
part was once important wooden
rafts docking – place.
Plague memorialA third of the inhabitants died in 17th century
due to plague. In gratitude for the cessation of the plague, the Plague memorial with the
figure of the Virgin Mary was erected. Round the Virgin Mary six saints are placed,
intercessors against the plague. Around her head there are 12 stars and under her legs
the moon.
Aloysius churchYou can find this church, with its
extremely beautiful rococo railings, while walking around the old city part.
It is the main attraction of Koroška street and contributes toward the final
appearance of the Main square.
Rotovž (from German word Rathaus – town hall) is a public building, with head offices of the city majors’ administration. It’s located in the city center on the
Main square.
Wine region Maribor (1830 ha) is located on the west outskirts of Podravje.Geographical diversion is perfect for several sorts of vine. This region is famous especially for white wine (like ritoznojčan in mariborčan).

440 years old vine is growing in the central part of Lent. The name Old Vine comes from its
respective age, because it is the oldest authentic Slovenian vine sort, named also ‘modra kavčina’.
In the year 2004 it came into Guinness book of records, after the period of verification that there was no other vine in the world, which still bears grapes, older than the Old Vine.
