Orchestra, chorus. with the singers, orchestra and chorus from the Baltic Opera Gdansk. This unique performance in France will be followed by two more performances in Poland the following week. The opera is a tribute to the Polish-French physicist-chemist on the occasion of the centennial of her Nobel Prize in chemistry and of the International Year of Chemistry.

Lee Hoiby : The Tempest, Albany, Troy 1106/07 with Robert Balonek, Molly Davey, Catherine Webber, Joshua Benevento First performed in Des Moines on June 21, 1986. Libretto adapted from Shakespeare’s play. Recorded in Purchase in April 2008. Conducted by Hugh Murphy. Michael Jarrell : Cassandre, Kairos, 0012912KAI with Astrid Bas. First performed in Paris on February 4, 1992. This spoken opera is based on Christa Wolf’s novel and shows Cassandra remembering what happened. Recorded in Paris in October 2008. Conducted by Susanna Mälkki.

Aribert Reimann : Lear, Oehms Classics, OC 921 with Wolfgang Koch, Dietrich Volle, Jeanne-Michèle Charbonnet and Graham Clark. Premiered in Munich in 1978, this Shakespeare based operas has been produced several times in many different countries. Recorded live in Frankfurt in September and October 2008. Sebastian Weigle conducts. In progress Shakespearean Opera Performance Guide This book will include all operas listed in previous studies as well as new operas composed in the last 20 years. It will give all information needed to perform it : characters with tessituras (and complete cast for the world première performance), complete orchestral setting, sets as described in libretto, duration, recordings, publishers. It is to be published before the Shakespeare anniversaries in 2014 (450th of his birth) and 2016 (400th of his death). COWARC holds a collection of more than 6,000 documents published by opera companies since 1989 with information about more than 120,000 performances. A great amount of information has also been gathered on Shakespearean operas from all times and all countries.
