Relieving Principals’ Message Congratulations to the School P & C for their amazing efforts organising and running the School Community Food Fest and Market last Friday evening. Although the weather wasn’t real kind, it was great to see so many people make an effort to support the school and the P & C. I believe amongst the many highlights was the great variety of quality food. I know Mr Sharp tried at least one of everything and was very complimentary. A big thank you to all the volunteers for their wonderful support. I would like to officially announce the retirement of Mr Bruce Hunter, our school’s General Assistant. As many of you would know, Bruce has worked in the school for many years where his commitment to looking after the school, has seen the school benefit in so many ways. I couldn’t list all the things that Bruce would be responsible for, it would take me too long. It is more than just looking after the grounds and general maintenance, but includes setting things up, packing up and helping when certain events are on. Bruce has given so much over the years and as such, fully deserves retirement and all that it offers. On behalf of the school, thank you Bruce very much. Your efforts and friendship will be greatly missed, but we wish you and your family all the very best for the future. Mr Rob Young is currently relieving in Bruce’s position. Rob has done this in the past when Bruce has been on leave. The position is currently advertised and will be filled permanently via merit selection before the end of this term. Well done to all the students in Year 5/6 for their efforts on the excursion to Melbourne, Ballarat and Bendigo last week. A big thank you to the teachers for giving up their personal time to accompany the students. Congratulations to the fourteen Year 5 students for their wonderful efforts on Monday when they gave their 2019 leader’s candidate speech to the rest of the school, before voting. They can be all extremely proud of their efforts. We will find out who the 2019 leaders are at next Wednesday’s School Presentation Day, to be held at the Albury Entertainment Centre. We do hope that you are able to attend. Thank you for your continued support of our fantastic school, great staff and amazing students. Jason Weaven Relieving Principal

Year 5/6 Excursion After spending many hours on a bus we made it to the Melbourne Aquarium. During this time we saw eels, sharks, crocodiles, penguins, star fish and turtles. We then headed to the Museum where we saw dinosaur bones, glimpses of the human mind and a beautiful outside garden which was overflowing with life of all kinds. At Sovereign Hill we got to see the goldfields come to life. We spent the day exploring and visiting the shops. We saw gold being melted down and poured as well as spending some time in an olden day classroom, learning to write, dress up and play games. By Kate and Adyn -5/6S

Library News Our library looks fantastic with new shelving currently being installed in the Junior Fiction section. The aim of this project is to make books more accessible to young readers, and motivate reading. We are achieving the aims of this project by replacing the standard flat shelves with browser bins, and using the existing book shelf frame. This change means that our children can see the fronts of the books and not the spine, and the books aren’t as heavy to access. With this set-up, children will see the book they want before taking it from the library shelf. This will definitely make reading more motivating because young children will now be less likely to select a book and find it’s not what they want. Most importantly, the fresh new area looks like such a great place to read! I will send photos of the completed project next week. I can’t wait for you to see this significant change! Tracey Jennings Teacher Librarian
