Assessment Objectives
These are the assessment objectives for the unit. The
exam is worth 50% of your overall AS grade. Your
exam will be in May this year .
AO1(30%): Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of media concepts, contexts and critical debates, using
terminology appropriately and with accurate and
coherent written expression.
AO2 (20%): Apply knowledge and understanding to show
how meanings are created when analysing media
products and evaluating their own practical work.

� In the exam you will be asked to look at an
unseen extract from a TV drama.
� You will be asked a question which deals with
textual analysis of various technical aspects of the languages and conventions of moving image
media.
� You should link your analysis of the extract with
a discussion of some aspect of representation
within the extract you have watched.

The exam
The extract will be about five mins long. You will beshown it four times.
You will be expected to µclose read¶ the extract - break it
down according to: the use of camera angles, shot types,
movement and composition; Mise-en-Scene; Editing andSound and link these filmic elements to how meaning is
created for the audience in regards to how they create
specific representations of individuals, groups, events or
places and help to articulate specific messages and valuesthat have social significance.

light in the extract? How do you know this?
