The Problem!!

• How can you use these ten-frames to show 9 plus 3?

•How can you show 9? (put 9 counters on the first ten-frame)•How can you show 3? (put 3 counters on the second ten-frame)•You can make a full ten first by moving one counter from the second ten-frame to the first ten-frame.

•Now we have 10 + 2•10 + 2 = 12 so 9 + 3 = 12
