• Attention line:• Directs a letter to position or department

within organization. • Key as second line of address.

• Reference line:• Used to direct the reader to source documents

or to files. • Position one line below the letter address.

• Subject line:• Provides a short description of letter purpose.• Place between the salutation and the body of

the letter.

• Blind copy notation (bc):• Indicates that others are receiving a copy of

the letter without the addressee’s knowledge. • Tap ENTER one time after the reference initials,

enclosure notation, or copy notation (if any). • The blind copy notation appears on copies but

not on the original. Align multiple recipients at the 0.5" tab.

• When email is used to distribute a letter with blind copies, the Bcc box in the email heading is used.

• Mailing notation on a letter:• Provides a record of how the letter was sent or

indicates how recipient should treat the letter.• Key special notations in UPPERCASE at the left

margin one line below the date.

1. Click the Add to Document button.2. Position the insertion point one line space

below the return address or about 1". Key the recipient’s notation—e.g., CONFIDENTIAL—at the left margin.

3. Position the insertion point at about 1.2". Click the Align Text Right button.

4. Key the mailing notation, e.g., AIRMAIL.
