LESSON 7
What is Holy Spirit Baptism?
How does Scripture define “Holy Spirit Baptism”
• It was verified by the miraculous manifestations. (Acts 2:2-4)
• It was an overwhelming of the Holy Spirit’s power on those who were its subjects.
• It was a figurative description of a literal event.
The Only Cases of Holy Spirit Baptism
• The 12 Apostles—Acts 2• Cornelius’ House—Acts 10• Paul—I Cor. 15:8-9; II Cor. 11:15, 12:12
Characteristics of the Holy Spirit Baptism
• It was promised not commanded. (Joel 2:28-31, Matt. 3:11, Acts 1:5)
• It was administered by Christ, not man! (Matt. 3:11, Acts 11:17, Acts 2:32-33)
• It was accompanied by the miraculous! (Acts 2 and 10)
• It was no for Salvation!
(Acts 10:47-48)
The Reasons for Holy Spirit Baptism
• The Apostles needed it to have revelation of the truth and confirmation of the truth.
• The household of Cornelius needed it to show that God accepted “all flesh.” Gentiles could be accepted at Christians.
Remember the Holy Spirit Baptism in the Bible…
• Was administered by Christ for specific purposes.
• Cannot be administered by man. • Is in contrast to the Great Commission
baptism. • Is not in force today. Eph. 4:5
