A Teacher’s Prayer
Lord Jesus, when you lived and worked and talked
Amongst men in Palestine, they called you Teacher.
Help me to remember the
Greatness of the work which has been given to me to
do; that I work with the most precious material in
the world, the mind of youth. Help me always to
remember that I am making marks upon that mind
which time will never rub out.
Give me patience with those who are slow to
learn, and even with those who refuse to learn.
When I have to exercise discipline, help me to do so
in sternness and yet in love. Keep from the
sarcastic and the biting tongue who are help me
always to encourage those who are doing their best,
even if that best is not very good.
Help me to help my students, not only to store
things in their memories, but to be able to use their
minds, and to think for themselves. And amidst all
the worries and the frustrations of my job, help me
to remember that the future of the nation and of
the world is in my hands. Amen.

Teacher student prayer
God, If in being a teacher you have sent me the purpose
Give me wisdom to teach from the heart
That I may live fulfilled as an abiding son.
If in being a teacher you have given me your blessing
Give me strength to bless those who will come my way
That by the power of correct teaching I may show your examples
If in being a teacher you have made me a man
Give me the courage to live this uncertainty and life
That by being courageous and bold I may survive
If in being a teacher you have nourished me with love
Give me the lesson of the same love
That I may beauty in this world
Oh God, If in being a teacher I’ll be the person you set to be
Then make out the most of me
That I may be true, faithful and sincere in all my undertakings
Give me time to grow more in your hands. Amen.

Personal educational philosophy
To teach it to touch lives
The above phrase is my educational philosophy in life. I believe that it is through
teaching that we are able to see things differently; that through teaching we change a
person’s negative perspective into positive one. It is through teaching that people find it
necessary to move on and live life the second time after every fall. And finally, it is
through teaching that acceptance is just an easy word to commit above every downfall
and pain.
Teaching makes us see a different perspective in life.
We cannot deny that the biggest part of our lives have been influenced by our teachers.
Our teachers whom we consider our second parents become close to our hearts because
they have made us who we are now. They have taught us to hope for an almost
impossible dream. But every time we fall back and gain success, they prove to us that life
is a matter of living reality, not of wildest creation of mind but of wonderful and exciting
adventure we have to live through. Our negativity transforms into an outlook of
determination.
Teaching keeps us moving on
Ever notice that every time we go through a very sad experience just a talk with a peer, a
teacher and a friend and there goes our sadness disappears. In this way teaching becomes
limitless and unbounded. It is in teaching that the power of words is tested. True, it can
make and unmake a person. And as a teacher, the power of words becomes inevitably our
responsibility to lead another person’s path.
Teaching teaches us to accept bitter reality
Acceptance in any forms of painful incidents, whether in loss of love ones, heartbreaks
and failures, we meet another struggle. But by teaching a person how to be brave, by
giving the person a chance to toss a coin and hope for the face to show at once we know
what we really want. But again, when in the end we find it hard to let go, it is through
teaching that we fall back and think. Acceptance is a result of wise thinking. Wise
thinking is an influence of a teacher.
Let me mention it again, I said that teaching is a big responsibility of a teacher. As one
adage goes, “If a student fails to learn, a teacher fails to teach”. And I think thinking must
come from the heart as well. A real teacher when teaches from the heart it absorbs
forever, it is not easily forgotten. Perhaps that’s the reason why after how many years we
can’t forget our teachers who inspired us to live on and dream.
4 | P a g e
So, to teach is to touch lives. From boundless inspiration to deep determination, teaching
affects our decision. And when we teach with our hearts we definitely touch lives. Then
suddenly, from the many whose lives were touched by teaching, we become achievers
and not just mere dreamers. For in the role of a teacher extends beyond the campus.
Perhaps, that’s the reason why I took up Education course. I once touched by a teacher’s
influence in my life. In this way, I’m just returning the favor.
