What is a foundation degree?
Foundation Degrees are higher education qualifications which combine practical work-basedlearning with academic study. Foundation Degrees are developed directly with employers.
They provide the work skills relevant to a particular sector of industry or public service, and arean excellent way to combine critical thinking and academic skills with practical experience.
When you successfully complete your Foundation Degree you can use the letters FdSc forscience based courses and FdEng for engineering courses.
A full-time Foundation Degree will take two years to complete, and part-time courses willnormally take three years. However, at South West College a unique fast-track option is alsoavailable part-time over two years (two summer semesters included).
Completing an Honours Degree following on from a Foundation Degree will normally take twoextra years full-time.
