Project Overview As you know we were due to hold our second Youth Dance Competition at

Alexandra Palace earlier this year which sadly had to be postponed.

It has been a really tough year so we wanted to do something special for all of the wonderful teachers and young people out there who will still face challenging times ahead. Below you will find further information about what we will provide you with in the coming

weeks and what we need from you.

What we will provide you with

Description What we need from you

Pre-recorded videos

Each Monday we will release a pre-recorded dance video with a warm-up routine and cool down. All of the artists chosen have a link to Alexandra Palace and we have provided factsheets giving some background. A full track list can be found in our week by week schedule which will enable you to pre-choose your favourite routine. Choreography scripts will also be provided with the videos.

As a school /organisation you can decide if you would like to focus on one routine or try all of them, but you will need to choose one to record and send back to us.

We hope that by pre-recording the session this will allow you to choose a convenient time within your own timetable to arrange your dance sessions.

Pre-recorded Creative Sessions

In addition to the weekly routines we will also be releasing four pre-recorded creative sessions which will focus on props, set design, make up and costume.

You can utilise the creative sessions to help give your performance that extra bit of razzle dazzle; you may decide to focus on costumes or a super backdrop or really go to town and have it all. The decisions are all yours. Ultimately, we want to provide a project that is both challenging and super fun.

Zoom catch up meeting

On Monday 30th November 16:00 – 18:00 we will be providing a Zoom catch-up for all group leaders. This will be an opportunity to voice any questions and where we can offer support and advice to help you along with the project. The Zoom session will be recorded for those unable to attend and you can always contact us with any questions you may have.

Please confirm if you are able to attend the zoom catch up meeting by emailing Selina at [email protected] The link to access the Zoom is as follows:Para Dance UK is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

Filming of the Routines As a school/organisation you will have the opportunity to try out all four routines as they are released to you each week. You can then decide which one best suits your dancers and choose one routine to record and send back to us. Once we have received all of the films back, they will be sent off to our editing team to create a compilation film which will be released publicly in the New Year to promote 2021’s competition.

Please be aware that our editing team cannot crop individual students out of the film, so all students participating in the recording will be included in the mash up film’s end product. It is important to note that every child that participates in the filming MUST have a signed consent form back from their parent or guardian, otherwise we will not be able to use the video.

Children that have not been given consent to be filmed are welcome to take part in the dance sessions and practice, but it will be your responsibility to ensure that they are not in the recording.

What you will need to do: • Send out and collect the video consent forms enclosed for each child participating in the filming.• Film your video.• Fill out the video submission form.

Reminder: Send your video and video submission forms by 18th December to Isobel Aptaker [email protected]

Filming Guidelines Videos should be filmed in landscape (with your phone horizontal)

Some helpful tips:Good lighting is critical

Try as much as possible to shoot your video in brightly lit areas. This will help avoid unnecessary shadows and grainy areas in your video. But be careful not to point the camera directly at bright light sources (windows, lights etc). Whatever light you use it should be stable and steady.

Stay steady

Just as important is keeping the camera steady. The easiest way to do this by setting it down onto something and leaving it.

Good audio

One of the most important things is good audio. If people can’t hear you they will lose interest. Set yourself up in a quite space with minimal external noise. You will want to be close enough to your phone that you can be heard clearly, but not too close that we are looking up your nose!

Use your best camera

The camera on the reverse of you smartphone tends to be the better quality. If you have someone that can position the phone for you then great. If not, line up everything press record and then come into shot. We can always trim the start and finish of your films.

Practice makes perfect

Once you think you have a good source of light coming from behind the camera, that is set down on a steady surface with you framed centrally in the camera then have a brief test run. Watch yourself back. If you can’t see or hear everything clearly make small adjustments until you are happy.
