Apparently, it went down to the wire. Tony walked away with the crown. It was the math that got him over the line, ac- cording to Lily Serna, the math head on the show. But there’s no long, princess-like hiatus for these people — it’s straight into the third series. David Astle, the Letters part of Letters and Num- bers, has a little story about the word three. This is such a funny old show. I’m not familiar with the carry-over champ, Andre the roof-plumbing special- ist. You may be, though, if you watch this regularly. He’s been ‘‘trying out a few things’’, he tells host Richard Morecroft. Does he just mean something to do with downpiping? But then I think maybe he’s talking about consonants and vowels. Do they have a system going, these contestants? Maybe you would do some research, if there were a big dictionary and pride were at stake. The math types, they’d definitely have a formula. The other player tonight, Jenny, is a girl who wears glasses and studies engin- eering and science, and can get a Rubik’s cube out in 42 seconds. Letters and Numbers SBS One, 6pm, Monday
