1st Gift

If I were to give Flora a gift I would probably choose to give her beauty. She always is a servant to her own family which I find really sad. Only Nonna is really there for Flora and she had to give up a lot to do that for her grand-child. Also, Flora never believes in her beauty. Of course she can be beautiful if she believes and really wants herself to look good. Even Sandro Botticelli, who had to paint Flora’s sister Domenica, told Flora that she was a beauty and good-looking.

2nd GiftThe second gift I would want to give to Flora would be a nice dress. This is adding to the first gift, beauty. I think she has to have a good dress because it is so unfair how Domenica has everything and Flora almost has nothing. Sometimes Domenica also struggles being the only girl that Maddelena likes dressing up, but still it is better than to be like Flora, working in the gardens and eating with the servants in the kitchen instead of at the big supper table with her wealthy family. I mean imagine sitting with your cleaning lady in the basement having a simple soup while your sibling(s) and your parents are enjoying a nice meal with a great view and alongside having a nice conversation about the great day that they have had. Imagine working in your garden and being ignored by your mother all the time. That must hurt and that is why Flora should get a nice present that she can be proud of and hopefully show off and be noticed.

3rd GiftAs Flora’s 3rd gift I would giver her a diary because since she has quite an interesting life she should really record it somehow. This could help her reflect on the past and maybe help her with different other thoughts when she is at the Goldsmith’s shop towards the end of the story. Flora’s personality seems shy and for me it would make sense if shy people had a diary. Like that they also get a chance to express themselves somehow which they probably didn’t have in school because they are not confident enough to raise their hand. This is a bit how I would imagine Flora to be if she would have attended school with me and that’s why she should also get a diary from me.

4th GiftMy 4th gift to give to Flora would be real and good friend. Although Emilio becomes her friend during the story, I don’t think that there is a huge connection between them because they are two different genders. So I would give Flora a best girl friend. Someone that can deal with Flora’s sadness, confusion, energy and happiness. I think every single person in this world needs to have a best friend that supports them in hard times and helps them have fun. Life is not always easy and relaxed as Flora’s life. She has to struggle with much more things than her other siblings do. A lot of the time there’s stress and fear that is not so easy to solve alone and that is when you can use a friend to talk to and go to for advice and suggestions. A best friend is exactly that someone who can help you out in the worst situations in life.

5th GiftMy 5th gift and last one to give to Flora would be a diamond. She has already stolen a few others so she can escape from her home to Venice. She had to risk a good employee of the palazzo being fired and of course herself. I think giving her one last diamond, that would be bigger than all the others, would make her really happy. Of course, it would be a huge decision to make if she wanted to flee but also it is a dream come true. Connecting back to how bad she was treated in her home, I would also feel like she can have an object that is really nice and powerful in order for her to become a bit more confident and rise higher. The ring that Nonna had is one of the objects that Flora can now hang on to after the death of Nonna, but that diamond that I would give her could be a ticket to almost anything but of course only whenever she is ready to move on to something new.
